The stunning 18-year European record broken by Rangers

Rangers achieved more than just the last 16 last night.

Where Celtic miserably failed again, Rangers succeeded, but they succeeded in making Scottish history, once again flying the flag for the country in ways Celtic just can’t.

On Wednesday, Rangers became the first Scottish side to win a KO tie home and away since Celtic themselves on their way to Sevilla in 2002 when they beat Blackburn at both Celtic Park and Ewood.

Since then, despite all their efforts, despite having an extra 7+ years head start (including financially) on Rangers, they have never once been able to win a KO tie both home and away.

Rangers, of course, managed to do that, a team on a fraction of the budget Celtic have had for the best part of a decade.

They’d already failed on this occasion by drawing in Copenhagen, but by Rangers winning both legs, more history was earned on the continental stage by Steven Gerrard.

Just another one to add to the history books, folks.
