Stevie G will need to be very wary of threat

Earlier on we revealed some stats Tommy Wright would do well to avoid going into today’s clash with Rangers, but there are also, to remain balanced, some notes of caution we must also advise.

While historically the numbers are wildly against St Johnstone v Rangers, recent stats for Saints make for impressive reading, frankly.

Despite their horrific start to the season, we’d have to go back to round 13 of the SPL for the last time they lost to a bottom 6 team (Hibs). And since then they’ve only actually been defeated 3 times, all to strong teams (Celtic, Livi and Motherwell).

Right now, St Johnstone are on a hell of a run, going through February unbeaten (P5, W3) and will not be pushovers on current form. In fact, they just beat Motherwell only 10 days ago on their own patch so Rangers won’t have it easy.

Rangers also have a very unfortunate record pending – our last two away SPL matches were both defeats (Hearts and Killie) and the last time we did that three times in a row when Warby resigned/got fired.

So while the historic numbers favour Rangers stonkingly, the more recent records and St Johnstone form evens the playing field out a lot more in the home side’s favour.

Rangers must be at the top of their game to get the three points today.
