Rangers have a growing massive problem – and it’s on the SPL

Rangers face Braga tomorrow in a huge UEL last-32 first leg clash, but while no one is thinking too much about what we’re about to say, there’s a growing potential for a gigantic problem which could expose a tonne of problems and undermine the entire season, including championship.

We are of course referring to Rangers having a game in hand, and the SPFL failing diabolically to reschedule it for any civilised date.

It was nearly made catastrophically worse for the visit of Livi, but mercifully, while no one appreciated the short-notice reschedule, that potentially massive problem was overcome, admittedly to a skeleton crowd way below what should have been a typical Ibrox attendance.

But it’s the St Johnstone issue which is massive.

Some fans are just assuming Rangers will get bagged by Braga, but given that same expectation preceded the group of death, we wouldn’t want to join that. Rangers, as Ibrox Noise’s Derek explained, have every chance of going through – league form has nothing to do with this and Braga, while currently on a stunning surge of form, are not remarkably better than the Feyenoords or Portos of this world.

So, let’s go worse case scenario, as if getting to the last 16 in the UEL is actually bad.

Because the SPFL are clearly waiting for Rangers to get gubbed – and we can’t assume that’s going to happen.

There is literally no time slot for the St J match to fit – with cup games and league games and potentially UEL matches in there too, we could get to the end of the season with Celtic 3 points ahead or less, and Rangers critically need the St J match. Where does it go? Season is over, cup final done, league season over and out, and now many players are off for the Euros after a needed break.

There is a real, real problem brewing here if the SPFL don’t get this scheduled soon, and the thing is, while it’s on them, worst case scenario isn’t even their fault, for once.

We could end up with a season in limbo, with Celtic ahead by two points, Rangers not able to play their St J match anywhere, meaning no one can win season 19/20.

A void season.

Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.
