Rangers fans last night gave Ibrox Noise some indication of who they want from the SPL, hypothetically, if Rangers were to make a move for any rival player (bar the obvious).
Lewis Ferguson, Craig Halkett, John Souttar, and even Scott Allan’s name all came up, but it was two players who stood out by miles above the rest in how often they were mentioned.
Livi’s Lyndon Dykes and Aberdeen’s Sam Cosgrove were by far and away the most popular two names brought up, even despite some of the talents elsewhere in the SPL.
We can’t tell if our fans’ interest in these two is because they’re exceptionally better than everyone else, or if it’s because of a damning indictment of the quality of the SPL that players of this calibre stand heads and shoulders above the rest, but either way, it’s an interesting pair.
Both of them, of course, are strikers, and despite there being no transfer window any more, Rangers supporters don’t seem to think the options we have are good enough.
Of course, Alfredo Morelos is the club’s star performer, regardless of his current form, but in reserve we still have Albania’s Florian Kamberi while Jermain Defoe seeks recovery from his untimely injury.
But nevertheless, the suggestion of these two does imply a slight dissatisfaction in the options we currently have.
And we must admit, while we aren’t thrilled about Cosgrove, Dykes has certainly excelled at the Tony Macaroni.
But then, many players at that club do.
Maybe a summer move for the Aussie might be an idea…
