Did Rangers make a big January mistake?

Rangers signed Hibernian’s Florian Kamberi on loan, on emergency loan it has to be said, and we wonder if it was the right choice.

Think back to the utterly inexplicable signing of Andy King on loan, and while Kamberi had more logic (we needed a striker) that particular one isn’t one we’d have made a bet on, although a very wise man would have made football predictions at bettingmetrics.com and put a punt on it to much profit.

But nevertheless he’s here now, and in truth, our expectations are low.

We have no idea how many minutes he’ll get, and while his record is ok (he’s a one in 3 at modest levels) it’s not inspiring.

Ultimately he’s there for depth, of course, and it’s just till the end of the season, but we cannot help but wonder why on earth we went to Hibs of all places to borrow one of their players.

Rangers are the team diddy SPL sides want to loan players from, since when was borrowing their players good enough for this club?

It’s an odd one – would we see Liverpool borrowing a Stoke player? Even on emergency style loan?

This had a ring of panic to it, and when we look at his Hibs record, in all honesty it’s kind of rubbish:

3 goals in 20, 8 in 29, overall 30 in 84.

We want this guy to prove us way wrong, in the exact opposite way that the wonderful Ianis Hagi is proving us way right, but where a legend like Jermain Defoe is wonderful backup for Alfredo Morelos, Kamberi isn’t even in the same league.

But… it’s over to him – we’ll happily eat humble pie on this one.
