Big blow for Rangers as key man misses out

Rangers face Braga in a crucial last-32 first leg clash which of course sees VAR used for the first time in Scotland, but it’s what will be missing at Ibrox more than what will be there that sees Rangers certainly fighting a little against the odds.

For those of you who might have forgotten, thanks to his red card v Young Boys last year, Rangers will be lacking the services of Ryan Jack once again, meaning Steven Gerrard once again shuffles the pack, though this time out of necessity more than habit.

Midfield notably played better on Sunday, with Davis and Arfield, not to mention attacker Hagi all having very decent games or more, but of course Ryan Jack was back in among it for that visit of Livi.

Manager Steven Gerrard will not have that luxury on Thursday, meaning the remaining midfielders, namely Davis, Arfield and Kamara as well as Joe Aribo does slightly limit his options a little more, but then Kamara has been a firm favourite in this tournament, starting every match bar the home leg v Luxembourg minnows Progres.

Otherwise, the Finn is a cert to take Jack’s place, given Stevie is unlikely to want to mess too much with the Europa League formula which has served him so far.

Which means a likely three of Davis, Kamara and Arfield, unless Stevie has noticed Davis plays far better with Jack which could see the former Rangers captain benched for this one. Meaning Kamara, Arfield and Aribo.

Either way, there will be no Jack and that is a heck of a blow.
