Three in, four out – Rangers’ Deadline Day gets underway

Happy Deadline Day everyone! Today marks the end of the January transfer window, and Rangers’ intentions have changed dramatically following four horrific performances in a row, one loss, and a bunch of player injuries.

Ibrox Noise takes you through all the business it’s looking like we could get done today:

Incomings:

Ianis Hagi:

Genk’s attacking midfielder is to undergo a medical today for a 6-month loan, with option to buy. The 21-year old Romanian international hasn’t been guaranteed a place this season in Belgium, but his stats tell their own story. This one has been verbally agreed and just needs a medical and contract.

Florian Kamberi:

Following Jermain Defoe’s untimely injury Rangers have been forced into action, and Hibs’ star striker, with 12 goals and assists in 27 matches for a struggling Hibs team looks like Steven Gerrard’s answer. We can’t say we’re exactly bowled over by this name coming in but he knows the SPL and perhaps with better service, say, from a Romanian international, he’ll thrive.

Miguel Luís:

Slightly more tenuous now, but Sporting’s midfielder, 20, has been mentioned in connection with bolstering Rangers’ struggling midfield. While Hagi will come in and give the desperately-needed creativity, just three men are available for the more central areas – Arfield, Davis and Kamara, and it could use another man. We’ll see if this one comes to pass.

Outgoings:

This is where it gets ‘mental’:

Greg Docherty:

This lad has the choice of Britain – he is 99% certain to leave today, but the question is where. There are mentions he’s being used as a part-change loan swap for Hibs’ Kamberi, but then there’s Aberdeen, Hearts, Wigan, Sunderland, Charlton, Millwall, Stoke and just about every Championship team you can muster. He will not struggle for suitors.

Jordan Jones:

Certain to be out on loan today – Stoke, Middlesbrough, Blackburn and a bunch of others want this guy too – it’s just a question of him getting the right side.

Brandon Barker:

No teams have specifically been mentioned yet, but we would not be shocked to hear one arise – Barker is surplus and has proven time and time again he isn’t at the level of Rangers. We know why he was signed but this one is miles from working out.

Eduardo Herrera:

This was finally confirmed by Rangers yesterday – there was no mention of a fee, or mutual consent, and the striker has moved permanently to Mexico. We’re a little confused as to how someone under contract can just leave without mention of any of these, but there you go – he is officially gone, at last.

Reprieve:

Matt Polster:

His excellent performances two matches in a row have finally woken his manager up to what this lad can do – and given captain James Tavernier something to think about. He will remain at Ibrox and will sincerely hope his displays have given him a real chance of more football.

You can expect even more nuttiness as the deadline hour looms.
