These six may leave this month – includes one surprise name

With Stevie G confirming around three or four players will leave, be it on loan or permanent, this January window, that will take it to 6.

Eros Grezda and Andy King are out the door, and this will add another four to the winter tally.

Who are they likely to be?

Ibrox Noise takes you through the most obvious candidates for an exit:

Greg Docherty:

Stevie’s been pretty vocal about this, that he admires him and has no complaints about his professionalism, but has never addressed his ability or quality meaning clearly he doesn’t rate either. He’s been pretty clear that Docherty will get minutes elsewhere, and it does look, under this manager, like the fan-favourite will be at a new club come February. There’s no real point in another loan, because there won’t be opportunity under Stevie – not now, not ever. So this would be a sale, unless one cannot be found.

Jamie Murphy:

The injury in summer 2018 not only ended Murphy’s Rangers career, it’s seriously hurt his career, period, and despite regaining fitness the winger is not in Stevie’s plans. Gerrard did speak highly of Murphy before injury, but time has moved on and so have Rangers. Murphy would be a mutual consent because at his age, Rangers will struggle to sell him. He is almost certainly not going to be at Ibrox next month.

Glenn Middleton:

Ever since he lost his way after that breakthrough early last season, the winger has really drifted out of first team contention. Let’s not forget the fall from grace here – despite the manager preferring loans and his own signings, he still found plenty time for Middleton last season, but it went south and since then, the winger has fallen to the bottom of the pile. Still young, this would be a loan, and hopefully one which goes better than Hibs did.

Matt Polster:

Been at Ibrox for a year and had barely four appearances, including friendlies, the American isn’t needed or wanted, even if he is liked. Stevie long ago picked Tavernier as his main man for RB and Polster is utterly surplus. For the sake of his own career, the utility man needs to move on.

Maybes:

Jordan Jones:

A number of clubs are sniffing around Jones, whose Rangers future is unclear at best. Blackburn, Stoke and Boro have been mentioned as being interested and if he’s still at Ibrox come next month maybe just maybe Stevie has use for him after all.

Sheyi Ojo:

Yes, you might not have expected this name, but since utterly losing his place, Ojo is effectively surplus now and isn’t needed. Fans don’t like him, at all. The Feyenoord goal is a distant memory and the kid adds nothing as a sub. We wouldn’t be at all shocked to hear he’s gone and a new loan arranged for him elsewhere.

Anyone else you’d like to see leave?

  1. As long as we're making money from the surplus it's good business but we need to replace these players with better players if we have any ambition of stopping the manky mob getting nine
