In better news, some players today clearly grabbed the chance Steven Gerrard gave them with both hands, in his own words.
He obviously didn’t name who, but it wasn’t hard to identify them:
Jordan Jones:
We never had any doubt this guy can play, we’re huge fans of Jones, and he was excellent today – full of running and energy, and played with a smile on his face. He may be getting that second chance at Ibrox after all. We certainly hope so.
Greg Stewart:
Two goals, a penalty and a belter, Greg has been very unfortunate to be such a fringe player – Gerrard hasn’t really known how to use him best, and that’s shown in the number of benchings and uninvolvements. Stewart wants to play for Rangers, and yes, by and large he isn’t good enough to be truly be a first team regular, but he’s got the hunger and need and will give it all every time.
George Edmundson:
Barely featured this season, but the English stopper is a classy player and this showed today – he’s very calm, and has an excellent left peg, and these attributes will serve him well as he develops.
Nathan Patterson:
The youngster impressed everyone at RB today, showing maturity and method. While he’s probably a bit away from the first team, and has a certain James Tavernier to usurp, he did his reputation the world of good with this outing.
This match had a mixed bag – some players know they’re not in Stevie’s plans and have given up, others think they have a chance and gave it all.

Yes Jordan Jones should definitely be given a runout on the right wing. He is very fast and can also score goals
Stick with Jones, get Stewart and Edmundson some game time, and rest Tavernier now and again to see what young Patterson can bring. Who knows he might be the next Tierney but we'll never know if we don't play him. This applies to a number of excellent young prospects likely to come through in the next 2-3 years.
