Scottish press up to their old Rangers tricks

Scottish press up to their old Rangers tricks

Yesterday we published this piece suggesting that while Rangers had been away in Dubai, the transfers out speculation had died dramatically.

Lo and behold the day/day after they travel back, Roma are ‘lining up a megabucks bid’ for Borna Barisic.

In fairness, this story isn’t implausible, given just how in-demand the Croatian international is, but we cannot help but let out a little guffaw that the stories start back up the second the club effectively lands back on Glaswegian shores.

Isn’t it strange how these tales and rumours dried up almost entirely while the squad was being put through its paces in the Middle East, but the moment they get back or get on the plane back, the mighty Roma are ‘digging deep’ to take away the SPL’s best player?

We can accept this story is possibly true, but the timing is immaculate!

For what it’s worth, we’ve whined often enough over Barisic’s value to us, and as Steven Gerrard says only ‘crazy’ money should be considered if any big Euro sides come in for our prized performers. Not just Barisic.

But as we preach endlessly to anyone who’ll listen, if Man Utd happily paid £50M for Wan-Bissaka and Trent Alexander-Arnold’s current market value is £100M while Celtic sold off a truly broken LB who can barely get a game for Scotland for £25M, Barisic’s value is evidently anyone’s guess.

Just funny we’re talking about this again. Funny old game. Funny old timing…

  1. Just watch during this transfer window the stupid money that is paid for players and let no one tell you that our players aren't worth much. I heard of £25m for Danny Drinkwater a distinctly average midfield player who has hardly kicked a ball for 3 years.
