Run-outs for unfancied Rangers quartet as Stevie uses (almost) full squad

Unfancied quartet George Edmundson, Jordan Jones, Greg Stewart and Greg Docherty all got runouts today for Rangers’ comfortable 6-1 demolition of Lokomotiv.

Defender Edmundson started alongside Croat star Niko Katic, while Jones, Stewart and Docherty all started the second half in a completely different XI, as per the frequent convention for friendlies like these, and only made two in-half substitutes, as he effectively used all 24 players who travelled, bar, obviously, the injured Filip Helander.

The appearances of the four ‘out of favour’ players will be pleasing for fans, and shows Stevie trying to use all his men with a tough second half of the season looming.

Whether this means reprieves for Jones and Docherty in particular remains to be seen, but we do get the impression Edmundson and Stewart are players Stevie has use for and we’ll see more of them come the return of competitive action.

Stewart nabbed a brace, but performances and results in these matches are literally meaningless – they’re just extensions of training ground work. Pedro’s Rangers managed a draw with Marseille for chief’s sake.

So we’ll see if any of these players become significant in the second half of the season.
