Rangers looking at three men to replace Jermain Defoe

Rangers are in a three-man striker chase as Steven Gerrard desperately seeks backup to Alfredo Morelos following Jermain Defoe’s calf injury.

So far we know of Hibs’ Florian Kamberi, Burnley’s Matej Vydra and Livi’s Lyndon Dykes but we’re sure more names will crop up as the day goes on.

In truth, for the position Rangers seek a player for, it is unlikely, on Deadline Day, that we’ll secure Kylian Mbappe – this has been rather thrust upon Steven Gerrard following Wednesday’s blow, and even though fans have been screaming for another hitman, it’s taken this injury to see it really ramp up.

Morelos, of course, is one booking away from another suspension, and continues to nurse an ongoing injury himself, so whoever does come in, if anyone, may end up being, temporarily, Rangers’ first-choice striker.

Or only striker.

It is essential the right man comes in.
