Injury crisis: Stevie MUST dip into transfer market

Rangers have now, and rather suddenly, right when we worried it would happen, been smashed in the face by a colossal injury pileup.

Only a month ago we celebrated the near-dawn of 55 thanks to that incredible December and win over Celtic, but now with a bit of a squad crisis and no new signings, things have changed a bit.

Breaking it down:

James Tavernier continues to miss out through recovery over an appendix issue.

Ryan Jack set to miss a month or so with a calf issue.

Filip Helander, last we heard, still in a leg brace and certainly a long way off fitness.

Greg Stewart with an unknown injury.

At least 3 of those were starters, and Greg Stewart, while abysmally underused, was a very useful squad option. That’s four men Rangers need going into the business end of the season.

Add to this the litany of exits this January:

Ross McCrorie, Jamie Barjonas, Serge Atakayi, Zak Rudden, Jamie Murphy, Greg Docherty (?), Eros Grezda, and Eduardo Herrera among others and the squad is looking, particularly in midfield and up front, extremely thin on the ground.

We don’t mean to sound doom and gloom, and we’re happy to get some notes of positivity from you all – transfer activity is now critical.

Please, cheer us up!

  1. The loss of Ryan Jack is a MASSIVE blow, because was (with the exception of Morelos) by far our most influential player in the first of the season. None of the players we are letting go are currently good enough to step up to the level we need if we are going to be successful, so the only satisfactory solution does look like signing someone.
But of course, Stevie knows what is needed much better than any of us, the question is whether he will be given the money needed to sign a decent quality midfielder.
