Gerrard admits “teams want our players”…

Steven Gerrard has admitted that on top of ‘every player having his price’, there is a significant scouting group who are coming to Rangers matches every fixture to run the rule over various talent.

We know Morelos and Barisic have been watched, and there’s a little dispute over whether Arsenal scouts were looking at Aribo or Kamara, but Rangers’ most prized players are certainly interesting big sides south of the border and on the continent.

Gerrard said:

“I think there is a lot of interest in a lot of our players at the moment, looking at the scouting list that comes to our games. There has been for quite some time and I don’t think that is going to change between now and the end of the season.”

And that IS what we want – interest in our players because they’re doing so well. It makes a change to have some of Europe’s biggest clubs like AC Milan, Arsenal, and Roma come to watch our players rather than no one being interested at all in Rob Kiernan (sorry Rob).

It just shows the calibre of talent we now have that these scouts are on the lookout for quality players for big sides south of the border and on the European mainland and they’re coming to Ibrox to find them.

No question Rangers players are sought after commodities – and that’s a sign we’re doing the right things. And we also wouldn’t let our best talent go without a colossal price being issued for them – a crazy price.

But just knowing a pile of big clubs are hovering over our players certainly beats the days when we couldn’t give them away.

From Garner to Morelos. What a difference a few years makes.

  1. We scout great talent, they get good and instead of getting a good few years out of them, English teams just hoover them all up.
