Steven Gerrard’s award for manager of the month for December really was about as deserved as they come.

It’s the second time Rangers’ manager has won the gong since he arrived in Govan, and while no one player was staggering overall in December, the manager’s blueprint certainly was and even despite that ugly draw at Pittodrie, the run of results last month was stunning.

While Celtic ‘jammied’ their way to the League Cup title, not a single fan of their club believed they’d remotely deserved it – they won with an offside goal for chief’s sake. Rangers utterly outplayed them in every way, and were only let down by admittedly poor finishing and an inspired Fraser Forster.

Otherwise, the month, including UEL progression, was an astonishing all-round team performance, which obviously goes to the credit of the manager, whose image the team is most certainly in.

Gerrard’s award for manager of December was evidently about as earned as we can remember – his near-decade in waiting triumph at Parkhead was probably, in fact, definitely, Rangers’ biggest and most important Old Firm win since Ugo Ehiogu (RIP) smashed one at the same venue in 2007.

That result after Walter Smith’s re-appointment saw a sea-change in Scottish football, as Celtic faltered while Rangers rose.

Whether we’ll see history repeat itself is another matter, but what’s for sure is the omens are positive.

And Gerrard really is working miracles – even when he makes decisions we don’t completely agree with.

We want to see Greg Docherty, we want Jones, we want Katic – but Gerrard has now earned the right to be trusted, which is just how big winning last month’s Parkhead Old Firm was.

We are starting to really kowtow to the manager, and while always maintaining our right to question things, accepting the manager really does know what he’s doing.

Last month changed a hell of a lot for us.

Hard to argue with gubbing Celtic on their own patch, isn’t it?
