Big decision for Stevie tonight over Connor Goldson. Or is it?

Something interesting happened v Stranraer that we covered here on the site, and it didn’t get much coverage. True, Connor Goldson was also rested of the ‘fringe’ squad that appeared in Govan, but nevertheless despite captain James Tavernier’s injury, it was many fans’ future hope of captain Ryan Jack who got the nod ahead of Allan McGregor, Steven Davis and Scott Arfield.

The question is with Goldson inevitably selected tonight, will Jack be demoted again, given Goldson is obviously the vice-captain?

Regular captain James Tavernier will not be ready for this one, still recovering as he is, so by default we’d assume Goldson will gain the captaincy – funnily enough for the first time since signing – every match he’s played in, Tavernier has too, to the best of our recollection.

But tonight, no Tav, so Goldson gets the honour.

Or does he?

Is it time for Ryan Jack to step up and be given the armband, or will protocol continue and the ex-Brighton man get the position as vice.

Technically as vice we’d assume he would – it would only be technically fair – whether fans agree on it or not, Gerrard gave him that honour a long time ago, and while Jack is the fan favourite for the job, it’s Goldson who technically has it.

But while we assume it will be Connor in charge tonight, we’re nonetheless curious anyway to see if protocol is bypassed and the actual best man for the job given the responsibility.

We’ll see.
