Another Rangers exit nearly confirmed – League One beckons

Following Greg Docherty out of the January window door is winger Jamie Murphy, who is close to a switch to Burton Albion in England’s League One.

Nigel Clough’s side, currently a strong bet for a playoff slot if not even more, would be a good place for the winger to go to, given his age, and lack of match fitness, and of course he knows the manager from their time together at the now high-flying Sheffield United.

Murphy’s Rangers career ended at Rugby Park in 2018, in a horrific injury which stalled him for 18 months and allowed others to completely overtake him.

He was looking like a solid squad player under Gerrard, maybe not absolute first choice but not far off, and that injury took that chance away and football left him behind.

This would be regarded as a fresh start for the ex-Brighton man who just wants to play football at this point in his career, and he’s wasted enough time.

Clough’s Brewers are a pretty appropriate place for Murphy to go to, some slightly lower-level football at a still challenging level to get his fitness back.

But we don’t see him ever getting a foot back in at Ibrox.
