Rangers’ best player is no longer Alfredo Morelos

There are endless talking points from today’s incredible win at Parkhead, but we want to discuss one we alluded to in our ratings piece:

Quietly, from nowhere, Borna Barisic has vindicated all our claims a year ago about his value, and not only nailed the £20M mark, but gone well beyond it and is now Rangers’ most valuable player.

Alfredo Morelos is the star name, yes, but he cannot deliver goals v Celtic. Barisic has now delivered two staggering assists, the currency of his job, his position, in one match against our traditional rivals, and on top of the 9 assists he already had this season (as well as two goals) the Croat has risen to become arguably Rangers’ most lucrative asset.

For months, months last season we argued that this guy was worth at least £20M – that his domestic form had no bearing on his value given he was delivering for Croatia, one of the best NTs around.

Only one of our readers consistently agreed with us – the rest mocked us.

Now he’s doing it for Rangers maybe even better than he is for his country and it’s clear that he’s risen to the very top and is by a country mile the best in his position in the SPL and we’re genuinely struggling to think of too many LBs as good as him in the EPL.

He was magnificent again today, performing wonderfully at the suffocating cauldron of Parkhead, and if Trent Alexander-Arnold (admittedly on the other side) is worth around £100M with 8 assists this season, Barisic’s value cannot be horribly far behind this.

Don’t forget, Barisic does it v Celtic and in the Europa League, regularly – he is genuine Rolls Royce.

We are lucky to have a player of this quality at Ibrox. He’s the best LB since Arthur Numan, maybe even better than he.

What a star.

  1. Been saying this recently as well. Top class player. Complete transformation from last season. Love how he plays with a swagger. And the hug with Stevie at the end too…….

  2. I've been saying on here for weeks that it wouldn't surprise me if we get big money for Barisic before we get big money for Morelos.
