Rangers make move for rival SPL star - but there's a big catch

Rangers have been credited with an interest in St Mirren’s Czech high-flying stopper Václav Hladký after the 28-year old claimed he’s been in talks with officials from Govan.

The former Czech youth international has been in imperious form for the basement strugglers this season, and is without any doubt their star asset, and stopped Rangers from scoring any more than Borna Barisic’s world class free kick when Steven Gerrard’s men visited Paisley earlier this season.

That quality of performance has clearly caught Rangers’ manager’s eye and if the 6ft 2 and a half inch goalkeeper’s word is to be believed, talks have begun to try and tempt him to Glasgow.

Rangers would have a lot of competition though, for the number one’s target, like Alfredo Morelos indeed, is the English PL, and he initially seeks a move to the Championship down south in order to get in that shop window.

Of course, a move to Rangers would be an even better shop window theoretically, but significantly he’d have to play, and that’s a huge minus in a move to Ibrox given Allan McGregor’s complete dominance between the sticks.

So even if Steven Gerrard is seriously interested in bringing the colossus to Ibrox, it might not be ideal for the ex Slovan Liberec man given he won’t get the exposure he seeks by sitting on the bench.

Nevertheless, we’ll see how this one unfolds, if it does.

  1. Always difficult to attract a good ambitious goalkeeper who is unlikely to play.

  2. Agree with Rob, but on a 3-4 the contract knowing McGregor has 1 more year, that would give him 12 months to bed in before moving up. And he will get much more exposure at Ibrox, playing in Europe and finals, than he will in Championship.

  3. Great if we could get him but I think he has already stated he wants to play down south

  4. Do we need another keeper?
Thought McGregor was getting a new contract, we still have Wes and That guy Firth.
I think it would be a waste of money to buy another keeper who will just warm the bench

    1. Think wes will be off too good to have odd appearance and not sure about Firth, not seen enough of the boy!

  5. If the report that I read about his comments are to be believed, the impression I got was that he might be interested in Rangers if he can't get anything better from England. Not exactly the ideal attitude we want if we are trying to sign him.

  6. Personally, I've always thought Firth is too small in height, to be a decent keeper. I'd rather try and get Alnwick, to fill-in for as long as we can. I always rated him, more than Wes. It's the wrong time to be laying out £££, when we have ten mill to find, in a short while.
