Rangers just coined in at least another £20M…

After our articles lately on Alfredo Morelos’ value, which, incidentally, got at least another £10-£20M added on last night following his first Colombia goal, it’s become clear from the response and the press follow ups our accuracy was not far off at all.

There is no doubt, should Morelos leave, that Rangers are set to rake in an absurd amount for his services – and yet, the only voices in opposition to this concept are those who had nothing to say about Kieran Tierney moving for £25M and Dembele heading off for £20M.

Here we now have Scotland’s best striker, an international who scores for his country, who scores for his club at the highest levels and is doing so prolifically and there are some mentalists out there who reckon Rangers could only get £15M at tops?

Or is it just because it IS Rangers that these numbers get perverted?

If Morelos was at Celtic Park, few would bat an eyelid at £50M or even £100M being batted around as a number expected for him – but because it’s Rangers it’s not possible.

Sorry, but it is possible. More than possible.

Luis Suarez, in a time (2014) where transfer fees were nowhere near the mania they are now, went to Barca for £75M. He’d achieved little in his career at that point beyond some individual honours and a lot of potential – despite being Liverpool’s best player he actually had achieved even less than Morelos.

And yet today, when transfer fees have gone to insane levels, still Morelos, scoring in UEL, Scotland, for his country… isn’t worth that kind of money?

Of course he is. He’s worth whatever the richest clubs in England are going to pay for a striker with the world at his feet.

This now is moving into top 6 territory down south – and if a Man Utd or an Arsenal or a Man City want a player of Morelos’ evident quality, they’re going to have to pay for that.

But we must be wrong because he’s a Rangers player…

  1. You really think alf is top six in England ?. Absolutely deluded, wee mans doing great but let's be realistic please. WATP

    • Look at bigger picture and his whole game play. Absolutely he could play top 6.. hes only going to get better with better players around him…

  2. He would certainly get a game for Man Utd , who need a striker an somebody like Arsenal could do with a forward who puts himself about for the team .He is certainly good enough , now to play for a top English side .
By the way the Daily Rhecord reported that he had " finally " scored for Columbia as if he had 20 caps instead of 4 .The negativity is bordering on embarrassing.

    • indeed re 2nd paragraph Think Brian McClair for an underachiever at international level not a 22 year old with 4 appearances

  3. His stats aren't too different from Falcao at the same age..granted he had scored in the champions league..but as a 23/24 Colombian forward, he went for €40m in 2010/11. So £60-£100m for a lethal 23/24 Colombian striker doesn't sound too absurd in 2020

  4. If a team in Austria can ask 120mil for one of there players why can't we expect at least half of that for Colombia international with over 20 goals already this season? top 6 team the least he should expect and a major bid 40mil plus for el buffalo that's what we should get

  5. We won't get £50m but if Dembele was worth £20m then Alfie is worth £30m minimum. Forget about the goals, he is a much better player then he looks at times. Then there's the goals!!

  6. To be fair, Suarez was playing for Liverpool.
But there is no doubt that Morelos has moved beyond the point of comparing him to anyone in Scotland. Strikers are worth more than defenders – fact. If Tierney is worth £25 million, which seems overpriced, then Morelos is worth well north of £30 million.
here is a thought. Apart from money, which is not why players get into football, and noting Morelos is already making a king's ransom at Rangers compared to any other career he could have taken, what exactly is he going to get elsewhere?
-He will get more money, agreed.
-If he gets into one of the top 4 teams in England, he gets guaranteed Champions League football.
-He gets a more exciting league and less bitter opposing fans

-But it is reasonable to assume that after next season he gets guaranteed CL qualification with Rangers and if we win the league he gets it next season too
-He gets a fair bit of money
-He gets into his national team anyway
-He gets a level of love and adulation he will NEVER get anywhere else
-He gets to play for a football icon

We assume that the love of money and ever more of it is the driver. But it is not the only or even the main reason people play football

We are giving the Buffalo everything he needs. We could get another year out of him after all.

    • I agree with everything that ScotsWaHae has said. I do get a sense that Alfredo is driven more by achievement than simply money, assuming of course that he is getting well paid where he is. In which case, we might get another year out of him. I suspect it will come down to whether or not one of the top clubs in England make a good offer, if so he will be gone. But if only mid table clubs show interest, then there is real possibility we get him for longer than most people expect. Let's hope so!

  7. I reckon hes now in the 20-30 mill region now. He needs to do it consistent at international level now for a 30mill+ bid.

  8. I'm afraid we'll be lucky to get 15 million for him. Nothing to do with the player – it's the league he plays in. No top six team will take a gamble on him so it's left to a mid table team and they won't spend the figures quoted here.

    • Have to disagree. Oli McBurnie had a one decent season in the championship and went for £20m. Morelos is scoring for fun up here and the Europa league. He's scoring more than dembele and isn't injury prone.

    • Neil
Why would he leave European football and international recognition for a perennial struggle against relegation with no hope of Europe.
Yes, it's a poor league. But goals against the likes of Porto and Peru prove his case.
I will be happy if we don't get a massive bid, as then he will be staying another year.

  9. It doesn't matter, what our enemies, think he's worth. They will not be getting Alfie, for chump-change. Alfredo has time on his side, he's young. Pity we couldn't hold on to him, for another season. But if these clubs that are circling for Alfredo, think they are going 'bargain-hunting' they can think again!

  10. I think a Spanish team will come in for him now TBH.
There will now be talk about him in Spain after comments by the Colombian manager who is held in very high regard in Spain.
I also wouldn't rule out Germany neither.
For sure eyes are trueley on him now and the whole world's at his feet NOW!

HE MUST NOT BE SOLD BEFORE THE SUMMER*
