Major change made at Auchenhowie – on the quiet…

The names Graham Dorrans and Jordan Rossiter, not to mention Lee Wallace and a few others, conjure up a genuine plague which blighted Rangers for the best part of 3+ years.

When Rory Hamilton rattled through Hearts’ injured list (including Souttar and Halkett) and emphasised that close to 10 first-team squad members were unavailable, while it certainly didn’t hurt Rangers, it did recall memories of when our group was similarly afflicted by knock after bump after pull.

And yet, when we look at the squad today, how many injuries do Rangers have?

None.

Absolutely none.

Every single player in Rangers’ squad that is currently at Ibrox as opposed to loaned out is completely fit.

True, we’re probably jinxing it, but equally we remember a very recent time when at least two, three, four even five squad players were on the treatment table, when Steven Gerrard or Mark Warburton or Pedro Caixinha was saying 7-10 days about the latest player recovering from an ailment.

But now?

With Rossiter and Dorrans, who were the very symbols of this issue gone, it feels like an injury cloud gloom has lifted and Rangers are now completely fit.

And crucially, able to maintain it.

But of course there’s more. We know hard work is done at Auchenhowie with world class facilities ensuring the best maintenance and treatment for the club assets, while we also know catering and diet quality has spiked dramatically the past two or three years, but there’s also a word or two to be said for the removal of all those players who were permanently part of the sick or injured.

Even Jamie Murphy is fit and raring to go – he’s obviously a distance from the side right now, but he’s ready if needed.

And that’s not been the case with the whole squad for a very long time.

It is now. This squad is fit, lean, mean and ready.

And we have to applaud the work done to achieve that.
