Summer signing could be 90 minutes away from immortality...

Joe Aribo will almost certainly turn out for his country this weekend in Singapore, to face the mighty Brazil in a friendly match for the international break.

The recently-capped 23-year old, now seemingly recovered from that horror injury last month, may not have completely settled in yet at Ibrox, but a good performance on what could be the second biggest stage he’s ever played on (behind Ibrox, of course) against arguably the most famous football team of any description on planet earth would go a long long way to enhancing this lad’s stock unimaginably.

Described as a Patrick Vieira or Yaya Toure type of midfielder, we know how lucrative such a player can be in this market. We still believe there’s a £20M player inside Joe Aribo, and it will take time for him to show that, but a fine display this weekend v the Selecao if selected and Aribo proves not only can he do it against a very fine team (Ukraine) in a low-key friendly, but against the great Brazil in a huge one too.

As we discussed recently, the Borna Barisic Fallacy shows just how long it can take for players to settle at Ibrox. A left back many would have happily driven out of Ibrox last season (and as recently as a month ago too), including ourselves, has utterly blossomed and become by a ridiculous distance the SPL’s best player in his slot.

So Aribo still has breathing room to get there too.

That all said, a top performance against the likes of Arthur, Neymar and Coutinho could see Aribo get a further kick start boost to his career, and we’ll start to see the player in blue we know he can be.

Hopefully taking a little less than 15 months though…
