Rangers star has revealed a ‘shock’ u-turn…

Just when Rangers fans were seeing the best of Alfredo Morelos, just when the club’s star player was looking 20x better than last season, just when he looked the happiest he’s ever done at the club and seemed to be finally content with staying possibly long term, just when all that:

Alfredo Morelos has confirmed, yet again, he wants to leave.

To say we’re disappointed with this ‘twist’ is an understatement, and we can’t help feeling a little bit fooled by him, in all honesty.

Yes, historically he’s never been quiet about wanting to move to England, but with his form this season and his massively improved attitude and temperament, and outright looking happier, we thought things may have changed.

Apparently not. He said:

“I’ve spoken a lot to Steven Gerrard this season. It’s thanks to him that I am here. He’s just a good man-manager and a great coach. Things have gone really well for me at Rangers this season. I’ve scored in just about every game for them. It’s not a secret that I admire the English Premier League. I have to keep scoring goals for Rangers if I am ever to get a chance of moving to a club there.”

Admittedly showing his appreciation for his manager, if not so much for the club, Morelos has confirmed, for the 1400th time, that in fact he wants to move to England.

He also went onto add that Gerrard had helped him in controlling his temper, and keeping calm.

The reality is everything Rangers fans are seeing this season from Alfredo Morelos is not for our benefit, but for his chances of getting the move to England that he craves.

Cynically, we can say fair enough, and as long as we benefit from it in the short term and get a good transfer fee, but it’s just a bit depressing that we let ourselves believe he wanted to stay.

Did he change his mind? No – we just hoped he had.

  1. I don't think he's out ay order. He's always said he wanted to go to the EPL. But sounds to me, like he thinks he's not ready. They're going to come circling for him, sooner or later. Gives us time, to organise another replacement. We'll still get a healthy wedge for him.

  2. He has been honest since the start – Scotland is a stepping stone to the holy land – the EPL. Can't blame him for wanting the riches and the glory on offer there.
As long as he does his best for us – which he has – and brings in a decent fee by signing contract extensions – which he has – I do not begrudge him the opportunity or Rangers the tens of millions he will bring us. Just hope we have at least 3 quality strikers on our radar. We need to replace both him and Defoe in the next 2-3 years and have a third option. We have some good youth and I still think Shankland could do a job for us. But 50% is a good success rate, so we need two to three quality strikers signed.

  3. Ffs can you blame him,he wants payday thats where the money is,its all about the money and everyone has a price and for sale remember

  4. If Alfie is off in January no matter how much £s We get for his transfer, We Will be struggling bigtime to find a replacement of the undoubted Quality of him. Shankland couldn't lace Alfie's boots IMO.

  5. I think come Jan transfer window he will be off TBH , We dont know what goes on behind the scenes { unless your 4ladshadadream} and really we cant complain he has done well foe us & vice versa. I just hope we get somebody decent to replace him

  6. The boy has been completely transparent and honest from day 1, and never said or done anything that implied he had changed his mind. Rangers have been good for him, and he has been good for Rangers even despite his disciplinary issues. It's been a win-win, and when we do sell him for a very substantial fee then he will have been an excellent piece of business for a player we signed for £1m? I do hope that we can keep him at least until next summer, he will be extremely hard to replace.

  7. George, JP – I do not think there is any chance he will be off in January. Not unless scouts have identified someone they think can fit seamlessly in. They learned with Defoe and Davis last January that doesn't usually happen, players need time to settle.
He will be off in the summer, but will want a medal first
