£7.5M? Rangers linked with staggering signing

Rangers’ interest in Sheyi Ojo stepped up over the past 24 hours with further claims that Steven Gerrard seeks the Liverpool winger on a permanent deal.

The ex-Reims attacker has had a mixed start to life at Ibrox, with a strong stat count and assists/goals, but his playstyle has divided some fans amidst concerns about selfishness and lack of end product, but none of this has deterred manager Gerrard according to reports, and Rangers are allegedly interested in capturing his signature for good.

With recent signing Ryan Kent setting Rangers back £7.5M, it’s not unreasonable to assume the same ballpark figure would be required by Liverpool again for a player similar to Kent in reputation and in fact who came to Ibrox with a much better CV than the former Freiburg winger.

But it’s equally fair to say few fans, even the biggest advocates and backers of Ojo would endorse that kind of sum on a player who, in most supporters’ eyes, hasn’t really proven himself worthy of the shirt yet.

It’s a very interesting twist, this interest in signing Ojo permanently, and we certainly await Steven Gerrard’s presser on Friday with anticipation over his confirmation or otherwise of this story.

  1. Surely this is why Wilson director of football has been brought in, to ensure we do not make mistakes like over spending for players? Ojo is no upgrade from Candeas and we let him walk away for next to nothing.

  2. We now have 4 left wingers in Kent, Murphy, Jones and Barker, to say nothing of Middleton returning in the summer.
We also have several young right wingers like Hastie, so I would need some convincing that Ojo, who looks like a pretty decent prospect, would be worth £7.5 of our meagre funds. Particularly when we have other pressing needs such as strikers no 3 and 4 for when Morelos and Defoe will be leaving or retiring in 9 and 9/21 months

  3. In line with everyone regards Ojo he is not worth 75000 let alone millions Jordan Jones and Ryan Kent will be fit shortly Ojo has no commitment and is so predictable no way do we want him on a permanent basis I am beginning to think that there is a clause in the loan deal saying he must get game time, against Young Boys Gerrard should have hauled him off at half time he was totally ineffective

  4. Realistically it probably will cost roughly the same to buy Ojo, but I've seen enough to say he's going to be worth it. Top class pedigree and already got a lot of goals and assists to his name, especially in Europe, 4 goals and 2 assists in 8 European games, the boy's absolute quality and the gaffer and the coaching team have worked with him since he was a kid, and will know we're getting a diamond in the rough.

  5. It would seem unlikely that Rangers would pay anywhere near £7.5m for Ojo, at this stage. The boy obviously has ability, he didn't make 8 appearances for Liverpool in EPL in 2016 without having something about him. Had he not then fractured his back and been out of action for 4/5 Months, he might have remained part of the Liverpool first team squad. Instead, he has ended up on a few loan deals, but if Stevie can develop the potential that he was showing at Liverpool before his back injury, then we could have a very special player on our hands.
But right now, he is nowhere near worth £7.5m. Of course, suggesting £7.5m is pure speculation. If we could get him in January for £2-3m, that might be a good deal.

  6. I think the same as Alanc, i think the boy has great potential, and given time will turn out to be a quality player.
But for people to say we would need to fork out £7.5.mill.for him at this moment, haven't got a clue about judgeing a young player. The boys not at that levek yet, in saying that, that kind of money is buttons to a club like Liverpool. So it's quite possible if they wanted to
sell him, they'll probably want that amount for the boy.

  7. No. To get Kent there was a share hokding, for Ojo who is….well undecided…no. simply no. This is all garbage, sorry but it is.

  8. I think that if this boy is reading the comments that some ppl are saying then why should he play his heart out, I think he hasn’t proved himself JUST YET but you have to give these guys a bit of time to settle into the ibrox way he will come good just give him time, WE ARE THE PEOPLE AND WE ARE IN A GREAT POSITION 💙NS/WATP💙
