Meltdown at Hampden as Rangers karma hits home

Anyone of a Rangers persuasion reading Kris Boyd’s quotes this morning can forgive themselves a little smile. The former Rangers striker aggressively lamented the abject poverty of stricken Scotland, the NT on the back of yet another humbling defeat as coach Steve Clarke spins the usual nonsense denying there’s any issues in the camp, despite captain Andy Robertson suggesting the contrary.

And we can’t help feeling just a little sense of karma here. Clarke, who childishly goaded Rangers fans on his final appearance as Killie manager, having raised the Rugby Park squad’s stock to astonishing levels, was now off to manage SFA FC and cultivate that Kilmarnock ‘difficult to beat’ mentality at national levels.

And yet four losses in six, (three in four under Clarke), the ridiculous selection of three Killie players over the likes of Ryan Jack in the last international break, and now the whole regime being lambasted by all and sundry really does feel like a touch of the chicken coming home to roost.

This Scotland, just like the last one and the one before that, is a complete joke. A manager who doesn’t take responsibility, mostly players who are beyond horrendous, and a selection of squad which is utterly comical – whether Boyd went too far or is bang on is for others to decide, but it’s clear SFA FC is only getting worse.

They switch manager all the time, they switch players all the time, and for a team which has McGregor, McGinn and McTominay (Two PL players and an SPL player) in its midfield it sure doesn’t play like it.

The SFA rot which set in over a decade ago has become totally endemic – that an entire generation of Scotland fans has never seen its side at a major championship following another which took its presence at world cups and European Championships for borderline granted is a true indictment of the bowels to which Scotland have plummeted.

And yet we can’t sit here and feel bad – this is a regime and an association which has frequently bullied and punished Rangers, ever since the Loch Lomond farce of 2008, and while a few Rangers players were a bit naughty, yes, the grudge has clearly remained and Hampden joined the BBC in being systematically and deliberately anti-Rangers.

So forgive us for not bawling at Scotland’s pathetic demise from a-once proud nation to this withering wreck.

You brought it on yourselves.

  1. Yes, I agree with that, IN. I said at the time of Clarke's hiring for the job, that if Strachan & McLeish, couldn't fix it, then Steve had no chance. A full Rangers 'dis-association' is what's needed. Leave them to their fate.

  2. I agree with most of this but you can`t complain about 3 Killie players being picked instead of Jack , he doesn`t play centre back or either full back position , so they weren`t picked instead of him .That said , the fact that any of the 3 get picked shows you the dearth of talent the country now has although Taylor must be great , he`s signed for Celtic and some of our fans think we have missed out .Not me , by the way.The right back position sums it up when Alan Hutton was chased into international retirement by Strachan who picked people in front of him who were shit ( Paterson) and was hell bent in stripping the squad of Rangers men.Scottish football is dying and the SFA/SPFL have been presiding over its slow death since 2012 , when their decisions killed our European ambitions and turned us into a backwater for Foreign and English journeymen.Look at where Hibs , Hearts and Aberdeen for example get their players from nowadays .Until the level of football improves , Scotland won`t improve …..its that obvious.

  3. I totally agree with all the comments Steve Clark is not and never will be a national manager he had a fairly good season with Kilmarnock and that is the level he should have stayed at the players he picked for his international games have been rubbish there were plenty of other players he could have picked but did not do plus his anti rangers stance is a disgrace he is suppose to be picking players who are playing well for there clubs which he has not done I cannot see him being Scotland manager long I also blame the sfa for picking him and making our team a laughing stock

  4. Unlike some of the commentators, I am Scottish and proud. I could never cheer or bet against Scotland. I would not let my loathing of the SFA change that. At this point in time I am quite happy that Rangers players are not selected, but that does not mean I don't want my country to do well.
I am Rangers and Scotland. Not Ireland, not England. Scotland.

  5. How very dare you! The SFA seen Clarke for what he is a "Genius"! He was appointed on his outstanding achievements in beating Rangers a couple of times therefore it was a no brainer. I was also cheering on the Belgians & drooling over De Bruyne imagine that lad playing for the Gers.

  6. Don't get me wrong, ever since I was young I have longed for Scotland to get to a major championship, I was 11 and vaguely remember 1998, but this whole anti Rangers vendetta the SFA have is slowly turning my head, it's come to the point where I am hoping Rangers just don't get involved with the sinking ship that is the Scottish national team. The decision to keep overlooking the Rangers players is becoming ridiculous now. Its quite apparent even the Celtic players doesn't have what it takes to turn that team around. Steve Clarke has just shown he is a bitter man.

  7. The Scottish football team is pure rubbish.
I always bet against them and I am in profit, so keep going Clarke and get on with your team selections, you’ll be out of a job soon.

  8. D Sadly I even bother to watch any more ..The Celtic select side with some poor players thrown in is not for me tbh …I'll have to get hairs on my neck standing up by watching The National Anthem on You Tube …from full stadiums gone by …Very Sad times
