Jackpot – 3-minute shocker has Rangers fans drooling

We covered yesterday how Joe Aribo wasn’t expected to start last night, but if he impressed as a sub could find his Rangers career kickstarting and his value getting serious.

We’d have to say a 3-minute goal on a starting XI debut qualifies.

We are struggling to remember an international debut for a Rangers player which had quicker and more dramatic an impact than a surprise start then 3-minute goal for good measure.

And for a side of the quality of Nigeria (33) against a side of the quality of Ukraine (25) when Alfredo Morelos couldn’t score as a striker against Venezuela, Japan or South Korea gives some idea of the gravity of Aribo’s international debut last night.

Lasting the full 90 minutes, the Rangers midfielder may just find himself and his stock hiking dramatically following an excellent display on his maiden outing for his nation, and he will thrive on the confidence this performance will have given him against a side of the renown of Andriy Shevchenko’s men.

We talk about value a lot on Ibrox Noise, we know – it is one of the two major measurements of a team’s squad quality, the other being number of internationalists.

Well, Aribo has now nailed the latter, and will only see the former rise if his Rangers displays start to accelerate too.

And last night’s fine debut for the Super Eagles will go a long way to helping him find his Ibrox feet.
