After a lively weekend at Ibrox, we find yet another Manic Monday with transfer stories aplenty. Let’s go through these in turn and update you with a handy compilation of all the wheeling and dealing going on.
Ok this isn’t really a story inasmuch, but the Croat, buoyed by his winner on Sunday, wants to kick on and become a mainstay in the side. There had been small whispers of him being sold to Turkey, but the latest from his camp is determination to turn his national form into domestic. A call up again for his country will help with his morale.
Again, a bit of a non-story but the young striker (well, we say that, but he’s 24 now) is trying to work his ticket out of the club with interest gathering from English sides. He’s had no part to play in Steven Gerrard’s era at Ibrox, and if Rangers can get a bit of cash for someone who is beyond surplus, it would be appreciated. We had high hopes for him but four managers weren’t interested. So, must be something in that.
Despite playing in some recent development matches, there appears to be no route for him under Gerrard. The manager has established his midfield and attacking areas, and they don’t include the playmaker, and Dorrans will surely be looking for a new club.
Reported that we’ve bid £9M for the Amiens man – sounds like absolute hogwash in truth, but we do appear to have interest in the Senegalese striker. The market value is roughly around £5M, and at that price it’s more feasible, but there have also been denials we’re even in for him. He said she said.
Still seeking a route out, the Albanian is running out of time, but like Dorrans is keeping fit with the Dev Squad. What a disaster of a signing, and he will sincerely hope he can find something inside the next 5 or 6 days.
As we suggested a week ago, Rangers are bracing themselves for offers. Gerrard admits there is interest in him, and bids are likely, and given most of the interest was from continental Europe, it’s likely to intensify as the European deadline draws ever closer. With Morelos’ excellent form at present, Rangers won’t entertain anything under £25M, given the chances of replacing him at this stage are very, very hard, and could potentially leave us with just Defoe up front. It could be a cash windfall, but not a convenient one. Look at Rodgers and Dembele at the eleventh hour a year or two ago.
Still rumbling on, murmurs of a loan to buy – we bring him here on loan, then we’re obligated to buy at the end of that contract. This one has been doing the rounds a few days now, and in truth it’s not entirely implausible. Stevie doesn’t quite seem to want to let it go.
More of an ‘and finally’ this one, Garry’s 15-year old lad is being scouted for our Academy. Seems a promising player and the young striker, like his old man, is at Hibs’ youth systems – but in a little hark back to the tussle over Billy Gilmour, Chelsea want him too. Apparently Rangers already made a bid for him that got rejected. That’s right, kids are now being ‘bought’ and ‘sold’ just like senior players. Ah, times they are a-changing.
And that’s the main ones as September the second approaches fast.
