One in four out? Latest Rangers transfer roundup

Rangers have once again been rumoured/mentioned in the transfer market this week, and Ibrox Noise takes you through most of the names and hints we’re seeing and hearing.

James Tavernier:

After Newcastle and Brighton were linked with interest in Rangers’ captain, newly-promoted Aston Villa have joined the party. Rangers can likely expect heavy interest in the next 24 hours from sides desperate to avoid losing out as deadline approaches. But unless these sides are prepared to dig deep, the former Wigan man will go nowhere.

Borna Barisic:

Been linked out again – a ropey couple of matches have sunk his stock after such a bright-seeming pre-season, and there’s been a few stories suggesting some continental sides are interested. They don’t have a deadline to worry about.

Eros Grezda:

His agent claims he’s interesting a clutch of French sides, but then he would say that. We don’t know how serious the links are, and frankly given his bottom-scraping stock at present, we wouldn’t be shocked if the best we can do with him is a loan out. We give no credibility to the nonsense claims by clickbait sites claiming he’s about to be sold. It’s all very well saying the ‘green light’ has been given, because it’s been ‘given’ in many players’ cases. It’s not exactly a story and sure isn’t an ‘exclusive’. Ibrox Noise has an ‘exclusive’ for you folks; the sky is blue.

Glenn Middleton:

Supposed to have a medical lined up at Easter Road, but we didn’t hear anything of him actually taking it nor a loan deal concluded. Breda aren’t out of the running either for a lend of the winger, so we’ll see how that one plays out.

Incoming:

Honestly, not a lot. Ryan Kent (obviously). This one’s on and off more than an iPhone screen – the latest is Leeds are in line to make him a permanent signing, with their transfer window closing tomorrow – they fear losing Kemar Roofe, and want the Liverpool winger on their payroll. But then with Harry Wilson’s unexpected loan reprieve to Bournemouth, Kent has been linked again with a return to Ibrox.

So, it’s a face off between Steven Gerrard and Leeds’ Bielsa. But Kent is really, currently, about it. We’re not seeing too much other than the traditional piffle about Martin Skrtel, who’s using Rangers (and Parma and Olympiakos) to try to drum up interest in a new gig – well, his agent is. Beyond that? All fairly quiet at present – Rangers are more interested in being ready for tomorrow night’s third-round qualifying first leg v Erik Sviatchenko’s Midtjylland and frankly so are we.

But it’s our duty to bring you everything we have on the wire anyway.

  1. Who in their right mind would sign
Eros Grezda? How the hell did we end up signing him, he was injured. How did he pass his medical?
Who sanctioned that should be no where near any future transfer dealings

    • He's an Albanian international and was highly regarded there and in Croatia. Doesn't fit here but could do it elsewhere. Worth a punt for someone. He can even use the excuse that he just didn't get enough games here.

    • PS: when I looked at his stats the one thing that surprised me was the number of yellow cards he picked before he came to us. I don't know what he got booked for but he certainly never showed that sort of "fight" when he played for us.

  2. While I agree Grezda will have no place at Ibrox.

He actually looked to be playing well yesterday along with being fairly motivated, albeit against Berwick.

In my opinion we are struggling for any form of balance on the wings. Jordan Jones should start more moving forward.
