“Not a chance” – Rangers fans divided over massive club decision

With last night’s breaking story that Hibs want Glenn Middleton on loan, the immediate and understandable response from most Rangers fans is ‘GTF’.

We’re not going to forget the Scott Allan fiasco in a hurry, nor, to a lesser extent, the Jason Cummings one.

And that is entirely understandable.

Dutch side Breda also want the flying winger, and it’s evident that he is not going to play a huge role at Ibrox this season.

But either way, Hibs’ Paul Heckingbottom has confirmed he wants the pacy attacker for the season.

So, what is the correct response?

Well, while emotion usually plays a big part in knee jerk reacting ‘no’ to this, there is a significant difference between now and when the Allan farce was in full flow – Allan Stubbs was manager, and Rod Petrie was chairman.

With new ownership and management, while Hibs aren’t exactly overnight a completely new club, they aren’t filled with the toxic nonsense they had a few years ago. And thus any axe fans have to grind should not strictly be with Hibs, but with those who behaved so poorly all those years ago.

And they’re no longer at Easter Road.

So, it’s worth bearing that in mind.

More realistically, and slightly less emotional is the fact Hibs are a strong bet to finish top four, or even higher.

But that makes them a threat, and a rival – and do we really want to give a rival a boost by giving them a talented player? Obviously any loan would have the caveat that he’d be ineligible to play against us, but he will still be a part of any strong season they have, and any threat to us, directly or not.

But equally, strengthening Hibs makes them a bigger threat to Celtic and Aberdeen, and that may be worth a punt, given what damage Middleton could do against our two main rivals in his quest to prove himself good enough for us.

It’s an interesting one, and we’ll leave it to you to express your own thoughts.

  1. Fuck hibs but at the same time it's a good move for middleton and us and the 2 hateful bastards aren't there. I forget the aul dolls name but she came down and apologised to tav after what happened at Easter Rd, that goes along way in my book. If them 2 shite bags were still in charge then no but there not.

  2. No way should we be loaning any players to Hibs maybe some of their hirearchy have moved on but they have a support who hate us with a venom they are the Edinbugh scum why give your opponents any assistance the boy would be better off going to Breda parting shot just remember what that support did after the final whistle at the cup final at Hampden

  3. I do think Breda would be a better option for Middleton's development. Different country and culture should help develop his maturity, and football in Netherlands is much more technical than in Scotland, which should benefit him as a footballer.
Plus, I admit that I really don't think we should be helping Hibs!

  4. No way should we be doing anything that benefits Hibs in any way, even if it also benefits us. Sometimes you have to sacrifice personal gain for your principles.

    • I understand your point, but look at 2 scenarios
1)Middleton goes to Holland and improves as a player, BUT Hibs don't take a point off Celtic all season and they win the league
2)Middleton goes to Hibs. Because of his efforts, they get a win and 2 draws off Celtic costing them 7 points and we win the league by 3 points – still think it is a bad idea?
I would sacrifice pretty much anything except my first born to stop them!

  5. Not a great fan of helping Hibs, but it would also be helping us. He won't take any points off Celtic and Aberdeen in Holland

  6. I believe he'll learn more playing Dutch football. He'll grow as a player and a person embracing a new language and culture. It can only be good for the lad

  7. Would let him go to Hibs. His future with Rangers is within the SPFL, therefore it would make sense to play in that league. It would make him tougher, that's for sure.
The bigger picture is Middleton helping to take points from all teams, which could only help us in the long run.
On the other side of the coin, I agree Dutch football is far superior to ours, so he would definitely benefit from there as well.
    Either way, Rangers win!

  8. I would send all our loan players out to SPL clubs if I could. It strengthens the opposition when they play our challengers but weakens them when they play us. And surely we thinking beyond Hibs when we consider who our challengers are? However, I also think that Middleton himself would develop better in the more technical Dutch league.
