Steven Gerrard makes big announcement about starting XI for St Joseph’s

Steven Gerrard has confirmed the XI who takes the field today v Oxford will, unlike last summer v Bury, NOT be the same XI who start on Tuesday v St Joseph’s.

Last summer Gerrard set the same XI up to face the Macedonians as those who lined up against the League Two side, but due to the way Uefa have configured the ties, Gerrard confirmed he needs to protect certain players and the side taking the field v Karl Robinson’s men will not the one who travels to Gibraltar.

He said:

“Now, what I don’t want people to do is think when I play a certain situation at the weekend, how I play, that’s going to be the starting XI at the weekend (sic: Tuesday) because it won’t be. If people want to guess that way there’s nothing I can do about it.”

So, for those who claimed the starting XI today will be Tuesday’s, it will not. And that’s direct from Stevie’s mouth.

  1. I think Tuesdays team will be very close to the team that ended last season. It's too important to take risks bedding in new players. I think Ojo will come in for Candeias and Aribo for Arfield if he doesn't play. That's it.
