Second surprise absence for pre-season clash – star man missing…

On top of our earlier article wondering where Ryan Jack was during today’s win over TNS, Colombian striker Alfredo Morelos was also conspicuous by his absence during the pre-season clash.

Whether he was left out on rest grounds or for others we couldn’t possibly say, but for the first ‘serious’ match of pre-season (facing a side in the Champions League) his absence was as surprising as Ryan Jack’s. Perhaps more.

We will know more about what players are getting more and more into Steven Gerrard’s serious thinking come the visit of Oxford this weekend, but Morelos’ omission in favour of both Jermain Defoe and Greg Stewart is certainly surprising for a match in which the manager is just starting to formulate some of his ideas and formations.

The match itself was pretty much a stroll for the home side, with Rangers having far too much for their guests, but some profligacy in front of goal stopped the score being more than one.

And Morelos would certainly feel he’s the one to stick the ball in the back of the net for Rangers next season – unless, that is, he’s moving on.

We just never do seem to know what’s happening one day to the next with this guy!

  1. You know whats worrying me?!,,Albeit it was a friendly,, There seems to be the same old pattern,, having all the possession in the world, with little return goals wise!!

Defoe and Stewart just ain't going to cut it if that is the future pairing! Desperately need 2 quality strikers!!
