Rangers controversy after transfer shock…

After Daniel Candeias’ departure was revealed to have only cost his Turkish friends a pathetic £250,000, we at Ibrox Noise have to wonder what on earth happened to Steven Gerrard’s exclamations from many months ago where he confirmed Rangers players would only be sold for the ‘new’ prices and not the ‘old’ ones.

Of course, the number was ‘undisclosed’ on Rangers’ official channels, which usually means the amount received was well below what the paying club should have given.

Let’s face it, Candeias has many years left in the game at a solid level – he cost Rangers around £1.25M and his exit to the tune of one 6th of this is really, really bad business sense.

Yes, he wanted to go, and yes, he was only really being considered squad, but he was not a player Rangers had to sell, and certainly not at the loss that it appears he went for.

Lest we forget, since Gerrard announced ‘the new prices’ for our players, we’ve nary sold a single one at a profit.

Every departure has been either a loss, a loan, mutual consent or breaking even. The one exception to this was Josh Windass’ £2.5M profit after he was sold for that having cost Rangers only £60K.

But otherwise, it’s been a raft of weak fees and cutting losses.

And Candeias is just the latest example of this. He clearly was not sold at a profit – some claims put him around £600K, meaning a 50% loss on the outlay.

Which isn’t as bad, but remains underwhelming.

Some probably think he gave us enough, and we should accept this as a gesture. Well, Rangers are not a charity, and we don’t, or shouldn’t give our assets away for free.

He might not have qualified as an outright asset, but still, it seems the days of Rangers underselling valuable commodities are still not a thing of the past.

  1. maybe not a great profit but, with a season left in contract it's getting the wage bill down that matters. Sorry to see him go.

  2. The sun trying to generate customers, who in their right mind believes anything that they print, every time we sell somebody it's reduced and when we buy it's inflated.
The only people who know are the clubs done the deal, just the usual anti Rangers media fk them.

  3. If I am correct, he is in the last year of his contract. At 31 years of age his transfer value becomes limited, especially for the type of player that he is. He was never going to command a very large fee, and other than the usual rumoured fees which are frequently wildly inaccurate, we actually don't know what the real transfer fee was.
I agree that £250k would be a bargain for the club signing him, in my opinion £500k would be a fair fee given his age and the length of time remaining on his contract.
Personally, I am sorry to see him go, but on the other hand if he wasn't up for the fight to earn a place in the team then he is as well going elsewhere. Given our need to trim squad numbers, then him moving will help.

    • Let's stop making excuses for our pathetic selling policy, age, end of contract, squad player, etc. The Turkish team came looking for Candeias. Do you think they want to fill their team with players worth £250k. Do you think that a valuable member of Rangers first team squad, 52 games last season, is only worth £250k? If the Turkish team want him then make them pay. If they don't then keep him. What can we do with £250k if we do indeed replace him as Gerrard says. Do we have nobody that can negotiate these deals properly? Sick of giving away our players for buttons.

  4. We must be the easiest club in the world to do business with. Who do you want? How much do you want to pay? Of course, help yourself. What a bunch of amateurs!!!
