Predicted Rangers XI to face Oxford; this team should destroy the U’s

After what seems like… well… a few weeks, Rangers are back in action today to face their first ‘serious’ football since Killie got one over on us last season.

Oxford United are the guests at Ibrox, with former Charlton boss Karl Robinson’s men coming to Govan for Steven Gerrard’s rebuilt squad’s first reasonably useful workout under the glare of a significant crowd.

Robinson of course has worked with Rangers a few times, most notably to work a deal for Joe Dodoo whose time at the Kassam Stadium probably could have gone a little better.

But what team will Gerrard select to face the U’s?

Well, a midtable League One team should provide a reasonably healthy opening pre-season opponent unlike the guff of League Two Bury last pre-season, and Stevie will want to give his new signings and returning players a decent debut at Ibrox.

We’d go (4:3:3):

McGregor; Polster, Edmundson, Katic, Barisic; Davis, Kamara, Docherty; Jones, Stewart, Ojo

Bench:

Alnwick; Tavernier, Goldson, Flanagan, Halliday, Jack, Aribo, Hastie, Defoe, Morelos

This XI is to give the Famous a refreshed feeling, with plenty of scope for change and alteration.

Remember, this is just a friendly, so there’s no need to be offended at your favourite player not being in our XI.

Whatever the team is, we just can’t wait to have the side back.

  1. Think the team (or near to it) that will play on Tuesday will get the 1st half and then we’ll go with a second eleven

  2. I suspect the team he will start with will be very close to the team that plays against St Josephs on Tuesday. Looking forward to the game today!

  3. True, both, but equally how does he balance giving everyone minutes with a dress rehearsal for next week?

    • Probably he will change the team around a bit in the second half. With the players we have it is difficult to get the right balance of giving everyone minutes, but the St Josephs games are obviously the priority.

  4. I agree with you Alanc, can see the first half being the 11 he goes with on Tuesday, like a kid at Xmas today, buzzing to get started and see the new additions
