Rangers winger Sheyi Ojo has impressed fans hugely since his switch north from Liverpool on loan, as the 22-year old flanker dazzled through the middle and on the right, with goals and assists already in his first few appearances.

If ever a new signing won supporters over instantly, Ojo’s superb contributions have been it, and the former Reims man is now already looking undroppable inside the first few matches of pre-season.

However, what fans may be less aware of is just how special Ojo looked from an early age, and how he became the most expensive 14-year old (and younger) in football history when Liverpool secured him from MK Dons at an eye-watering £2M in 2011.

For a kid to cost this much at that age was bettered only by his illustrious countryman Raheem Sterling who set Liverpool back an eventual £5M from QPR a year older than Ojo, but it’s that price for a 14-year old for our-now winger which really gives some idea of how special Ojo is capable of being.

He might not yet have exploded into the senior Liverpool side the way his promise suggested at age 22, but his talent is undeniable and we can already see in him the quality well beyond what we’ve seen at a similar age in Ryan Kent, who only delivered these kinds of levels after 5 months in a Rangers shirt.

For Ojo to already look this good this early bodes brilliantly for his future, and he’s one, who if he keeps on developing like this, actually could be good enough to play for Liverpool at the highest levels. Few would have seen Virgil Van Dijk transcending to these levels when he played for Celtic, but it’s evident that talent is talent.

And it was clear to Liverpool in 2011, when they were happy to pay a stunning £2M to MK Dons to ensure Ojo would continue his career in their colours.

Which remains a world record to this day for someone of that age and younger.
