Surprise reveal about Rangers' latest big target - and why SG wants him...

Rangers have been in pursuit of Charlton’s Joe Aribo but while some of the press and websites claim he is a defensive midfielder, which would be a curious target given our depth there, our man at the Valley has confirmed he is far from that.

Indeed, it turns out Steven Gerrard’s big current target is an attempt to fill the 10 position as Aribo is an attacking midfielder as opposed to a defensive one.

Our source said:

"Aribo is either a left sided or attacking midfielder and not a DM. He had a great start to the season, then got injured and was out for nearly 3 months. This was a blessing in disguise as many top clubs were circling but lost interest over the January window due to it. He came back about 3 months or so ago and has been on fire. As a Charlton nut I’ve seen a young Lee Bowyer, Scott Parker & Jonjo Shelvey all come through our academy, get their breaks into the first team, then sold on. All of them central midfielders. Aribo has just as much promise as them - whether he uses it or not I don’t know."

Now having the potential of Bowyer, Parker or Shelvey is not necessarily the absolute pinnacle of football – all players who were legendary for having so much potential themselves but never realising it. Bowyer himself had a tonne of talent but his attitude and behaviour wrecked it.

So, maybe not the most illustrious luminaries to be compared to, but still all quality players and if Rangers end up with that kind of talent that realises itself, it’s a deal well worth doing.
