Rangers handed big boost in pursuit of 22-year old star...

Rangers’ pursuit of Charlton’s Joe Aribo has been handed a boost after Paul Heckingbottom left the race to sign the midfielder leaving it down to Rangers, Celtic and a host of Premier League and overseas sides.

Our source confirmed one rival for his signature has departed, but it does still leave some significant opponents.

They said:

"Lots of noise regarding Joe Aribo and Rangers, apparently Hibs are no longer interested, but everyone else (including Celtic) are still in the hunt. Only two reasons why Joe may come to Ibrox are ££££ and Stevie G. Personally I think he’d be better off at either Villa or Southampton, as he’d play regular Premier League football. Moving to Scotland wouldn’t develop him as much as the PL. However, he’s just had a season or so learning from Bowyer and Johnny Jackson (both centre mids when playing), so learning from Gerrard wouldn’t be too bad for him. He has the potential to go very far in the game - just hope he doesn’t get done by his agent and fade into mediocrity..."

This kid does have big potential, and our source has also confirmed he is not the player the press allege him to be, which we’ll cover later, but it seems that if Rangers do secure Aribo, we will have someone quite ready for the first team rather than just squad depth.

We also understand Rangers may have catapulted into first in the queue after talks were supposedly held already with his representatives.

More on this story as it unfolds.
