Four incoming – Rangers working on imminent deals…

We want to get excited about the summer names and work we’re being linked with, and we’re reserving judgement on those who inspire us a tad less, while being optimistic about those who get us going a touch more.

And two names have cropped up in recent days to persist with the notion of a switch to Rangers, in the form of Bolton’s Josh Magennis and West Ham’s Marcus Browne.

Magennis’ career stats are nothing to write home about – the guy is a journeyman player with about 30 goals in 190 appearances in the SPL. He is only a centre forward rather than an out-and-out striker but we’re not sure why we’ve been named as interested. He’s also a self-confessed Celtic fan and quite honestly nothing about this target appeals to us. He’s been mediocre in England, and his overall game just doesn’t quite fit. Still, if he really is one on Steven Gerrard’s radar, we’d get behind him.

Meanwhile Marcus Browne, an AM, fares a lot better at 7 years Magennis’ junior. He nailed a combined 14 goals and assists in 44 appearances in League One last campaign for Oxford, which for a player of his age is solid. Like many youngers, West Ham don’t quite consider him ready for their first team and his loan spells are clearly the making of him. Under contract till next year, Rangers would benefit from cross-border rules meaning the price for his services would be a very modest six-figure sum.

Overall these two hardly inspire incredible jubilation, but we are quite intrigued about the likes of Joe Aribo and Sheyi Ojo coming instead.

We’re not going to love every name linked with a move in, but hopefully the ones we get inspire more often than not.

  1. Magennis has to be a non-starter. I can't see what Brown offers that Docherty doesn't, so don't want him either.

  2. Really am fed up with contradictions on this site used to love Inrox noise. You wont give Barisic a chance yet you would get behind Magennis who is a total donkey no offence to donkeys but he is. We so donnt need a magennis We need top Spl Drawer players he could not do it at three Spl cluns he been at so why do you think he will do well for us.

    • We don’t? If you read our summary of Magennis we think he’s garbage? We just said we’d support him! As a Ranger.

  3. I totally get you as all Rangers fans get behind players and want them to do well

  4. But in some cases you cant and magennis is ine I want Us to go after players that will improve us. Id Rather have Sandaza than Magennis
