Confusion at Ibrox over supposed summer signing…

We must admit to a touch of confusion here at the site. A few weeks ago Greg Stewart was a done deal, a confirmed four-year contract for a free agent.

While Aberdeen have officially announced his departure from Pittodrie (of course he was only on loan there) and Birmingham similarly confirmed he’s no longer with them as their player, it was supposed to be official before now that the 29-year old forward would be announced at Ibrox.

That hasn’t happened, and the media remains filled with stories claiming he’ll sign in 24 hours. Which has been continuing for the best part of a fortnight.

What exactly is the holdup here? A number of outlets made grandiose claims that he would be officially unveiled over the past 10 days, but the silence over this from Rangers themselves has been conspicuous.

True, it is now post-season and the brief summer break at Govan – but the social networking and digital team still is on call and unless Kirk O’Rourke or Willie Vass are unavailable, it shouldn’t really be a photographer issue either.

Unless it is? Unless the off-season has led to some vital component of an unveiling being unavailable meaning the announcement can’t be made yet?

Who knows, but equally we remain a bit surprised that this deal, supposedly being confirmed days or even weeks ago, still has not been.

Hopefully that will be rectified soon as he would be a useful addition.

  1. Really … !! If this is the calbre of player we're hoping to topple the unwashed with, on top of who we're expecting to depart, then we're kiddin' ourselves on.

  2. He really is, nothing special. He will eventually show up. If he doesn't I don't think the club will lament it in the end.

  3. The key word is " supposed " .It has never been confirmed by Rangers that we actually want him but as usual people are taking rumours as facts. We may have enquired but are waiting to see who else is available , so he may be an option but not necessarily something we are desperate to do.

  4. I'll take Greg Stewart over Lassana Coulibalys squad place all day. Squad player will do a decent job in the smaller games he won't star against Celtic so calm down lads the big signings are still to come.
