A shock absence – seven things we’ve learned about Rangers’ return to pre-season

Rangers players returned to pre-season training yesterday and there is a lot to chew through. Dozens of Rangers players were back at Auchenhowie but there were as many topics of intrigue as well as anything else. Ibrox Noise takes you through all the things we’ve learned on the first day back.

1: Jason Holt is miles off fitness. Yes, he was back at the HTC but didn’t take full part in the session. So he’s clearly some way off a return. Maybe not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things but noticeable.

2: No Jordan Rossiter. He didn’t report for the first day back – we can’t be sure what that means but it’s probably not the best sign, if we’re honest. We’ve heard he’s injured, which, if true, is beyond absurd.

3: Forgotten men Graham Dorrans and Jamie Murphy were back, and fully in training. It’s been said Dorrans will be freed imminently but for now he’s getting on with his work in pre-season. And it’s great to see Murphy back among the mix.

4: Greg Docherty is back from his holidays and was very much part of the session. We don’t know what his future holds but he is gagging to be part of this era at Ibrox and was ready to make an impact.

5: New signings Greg Stewart and Jake Hastie were present and accounted for – always good to see new blood at the sessions.

6: None of those who were away on international duty were at HTC – no Borna Barisic, Scott Arfield, Glen Kamara, any of the NI lads, and no Coulibaly – albeit the Malian has almost certainly gone back to Angers anyway in among the African Cup of Nations he’s on international duty for.

7: Glen Middleton was there, looking a bit glum – either that’s just his natural work expression or he knows he’s going to Doncaster. But then if Jake Hastie is going out on loan too he looked a bit cheerier.

There will be plenty more to go through but we’ll start with that lot.

  1. Rossiter is the absolute, limit. Comes back to US, injured?? After banging them in at Bury, we get the crock? No…something has to be done. He, has to be gone. Sorry, you might say harsh, but good business, has no emotion.

  2. Surely if Rossiter was injured he would still be reporting back for pre season .He must have been given special dispensation to report back late .Lets not condemn the boy until we find out the facts.

  3. Wlgers4aLongTime. I applaud your loyalty, I had that season after season while others such as Dallas, Hardie, Burt, McPake, McCrorrie, Kelly, Docherty etc etc etc got less money, less chances, shipped out one loan.

How ironic he found, energy, fitness and form for time outside Scotland.
