“His Ibrox race is run – 5” – player ratings v Kilmarnock

Ok, we’ll keep this one simple. Today’s performance against Killie was what happens when you don’t have most of your best players, and you do have the toxicity of Alfredo Morelos.

There is little shock that the performance was immediately back to the pre-Motherwell garbage with the team selection and Morelos’ increasingly unwelcome presence, and it was borne out with a truly horrible end to the season.

Ratings:

Foderingham:

He was gubbed for the first goal, made an admirable attempt at the second (update; ok, we forgot Firth was in by this point), but overall we’d like to think this is the last time we’ll see him in our shirt. 6

Flanagan:

Back to the diabolical Flanagan of months ago, for some reason he cannot seem to cut it at RB, which is supposed to be his natural position. Lost the ball countless times and showed repeated recklessness. Poor. 4

Goldson:

The usual Goldson bar the inexplicable armband in Tav’s absence, this guy just doesn’t reassure us he can cut it long term at the club. He’s just ‘there’. 5

Worrall:

Another horror show from Worrall who looked like he knew it was the last time he’d ever be in this shirt. A few gaffes and a lack of conviction. Weak. 5

Barisic:

All that time out and what did he do on his hungry return? Concede a penalty and fail to make a single telling contribution. Absolutely abysmal. 3

Kamara:

Cost the first goal with another moment of his trademark loss of concentration. This kid is too laid back for his own good at times, and seems to forget who he’s playing for. He produces a wonderful performance v Celtic, but then just dropped the ball for this one. 5

Jack:

Barely noticeable. This one passed him by. 5

Halliday:

Seemed to be playing as LB half the time – appeared to forget he was a midfielder for the majority. Mediocre, much like the rest. 5

Kent:

At one point he too was in defence – what the hell was he doing so deep? Lively in the first half with some wonderful touches and bursts, but faded in the second. By a tsunami though our best player on the day and it’s no surprise that Steven Gerrard has confirmed we’ve made an offer for him. 7

Candeias:

Barely did a thing of note – with no Tav to link up with he looked lost. No connection at all with Flanagan. 4

Morelos:

A few of his usual shots, snipes, greetin’ faces and one admittedly fine goal – but there’s no coincidence the team’s performance was so poor alongside him. His race is run at Ibrox. 5

Steven Gerrard:

We don’t blame him for the changes, we advocated it ourselves to spare the valuable players injury. Gerrard knows what he has in reserve is nowhere near good enough and the fringe players did nothing to persuade him otherwise today. He learned a lot from this one, such as he needs more incoming. 6

A very telling afternoon indeed.

  1. I.N, Remember that Fod was not in goal for the second one. Otherwise, I heartily concur regarding your other comments. The old self-inflicted wounds exacerbated by the usual incompetence and bias of the referee, our old "friend" Collum.

  2. Time to cut our ties with borna barisic. He has absolutely NO heart to play for the rangers. We're allowing a far better left back leave the club in lee wallace.I like the idea if true,of us possibly being interested in signing derby county left back, max lowe. He'd be far better than Mr.soft.Everytime i've seen lowe against us i've been impressed by him.

  3. I'd like you to correct Barisic to a -3. I would have hooked him after 10 minutes and even played with 10 men. If this guy ever plays for us again he will single handedly destroy our club.

  4. It sure was an admiral attempt by Fods for the second goal – But unfortunately he was never gonna save it…from his seat on the bench! Guess you never watched the whole game then Ibrox Noise?

    • Yes we did. It’s called an honest mistake. How would we know ‘someone’ made an ‘admiral’ mistake without having watched it? Oops, another ‘admiral’ mistake there too. We all make them, don’t we Will?

  5. your negativity about Alfredo is astounding….. great goa he scores but you blame him for the poor performance from the rest of them. Kamara appears to be next on the hit list the guys has been terrific since coming in guess that isnt good enough for IN. It turned out to be a meaningless game and it showed in the performance. Add to this that the worst referee I have ever seen was in charge he is just a joke no game of football will be good when he officiates.

  6. McGregor, Katic, Tavernier, Arfield, Davis and Defoe in and it's a win today. Lighten up a bit. We all know Goldson looks gash next to Worrall the 6 1st teamers make the others like Kamara and Jack better the defensive shake up was telling. A left back and centre back to come in as help is needed.

Totally agree with Barisic get him gone. (Don't know if we will get the 20 million you think though) and Candeais has ran his course for me as well. Flanagan Halliday will only ever be good as back ups and Fod is away.

    • Quite Rob – just because Barisic has been absolute garbage at Ibrox doesn't mean his global value is gone – his performances for his country have not gone unnoticed, nor the fact he's a regular for them. Whether we can fully get £20M time will tell, but we're under no pressure to sell and he's a coveted player.

  7. Can`t agree about Fods , he had no chance with the goal ,that he was actually on the pitch for and prevented us going 2 behind with a fantastic double save.We will be hard pushed to find a better back up goalie. Can`t agree with Kents mark either , ran about a lot but apart from helping Jack set up the goal did nothing much.Agree , Flanagan Worrall and Barisic proved they are not good enough and I wouldn`t expect to see much of Halliday or Candeias next season based on this display .Alfie was Alfie , good player but bad attitude.

  8. Rubbish comments re Fod – your bias against this lad is embarrassing . We missed the skipper today, and look a different proposition when the ex EPL lads all start (Arfield, Davis and Defoe). Fair enough review otherwise.

    • You’re spot on. We don’t rate Fods one bit and make zero apology for that. Deal with it.

  9. Agree with you IN, on the bright side, the sheep came 4th :),, every cloud and all that etc..

  10. There was more than Barasic, that was pure s**t! I got pelters for suggesting a run with no pressure is different, to when the tap if full-on, over at CJ's channel. But Killie exposed our weaknesses, perfectly. Back, came the side passing and lack of bravery. Back, came the crossing and nobody getting in Killie's faces and not pushing into the box. Andy Halliday was rubbish, BB was rubbish. Kamara tried his best, but the hunger was just not there. At one point, I thought Morelos would be send off and Collum was just waiting, to screw with the Rangers, again. Killie deserved their win. I just don't think this 'budget buying spree' is going to win us the league, for the forthcoming season, either! SG has done well, but we are clearly miles off from where we need to be.

    • Morelos could quite easily have got send off. Throwing his arms about. Collum obviously never seen it.

  11. This for me, just exposed the list of 'dross' we need to get rid of, toot-suite. What a shocker! No courage, no bravery, lack of creativity and our old side-passing ways, returned. Take out two or three main players and they crumble. Well, you've earned your P45 lads. Take a bow. Barasic was shocking. Crosses going in but nobody there, no pushing into the box, to intercept. So I don't blame Kent. Kamara at least, tried. Not all were to blame, but it seems there's more than one 'rotten'apple,' in our squad and they MUST get rid, even if we gave to cut our losses. Too much ££ has been wasted. The club comes before any player and people need to realise that. Not happy with what's coming in. Fill-in budget signings. Doesn't bode well for the coming season. SG has done a lot. No denying anything, there. Trouble was, there was/is too much to fix. Arses need booting for that display, yesterday. Ragin!
