Exclusive; Rangers man ruled out of key SPL job

Former Rangers manager and legend Ally McCoist has confirmed with Ibrox Noise sources that he will not be in the running for the Kilmarnock job.

The striker, who was so prolific in his playing days before his slightly more divisive managerial ones in Govan has admitted to us that he would have been interested in the position to take over as Steve Clarke’s replacement but that they want someone with more experience.

The Killie board did consider him for the job, after he put his hat in the ring on BT Sport duty, but they have elected to look elsewhere and require someone who’s been in the management game longer for the vacancy.

McCoist’s career since Rangers has been on the periphery of the game, mostly back in TV work, and while his time at Ibrox ultimately came to an ignominious end, someone with his playing experience certainly has a contribution to make to the sport again, be it in Scottish football or elsewhere.

But it certainly won’t be at Killie unless they have a dramatic change of heart.
