9 from 11 – a major concern for Gerrard over Alfredo Morelos

In a revealing stat, that may well be tested to its fullest extent today, of the last 11 goals Rangers have scored against Kilmarnock, striker Alfredo Morelos has scored almost all of them, bagging 9.

In short, the Colombian forward, by no means guaranteed to start today, has been pretty much Rangers’ only source of goals against Steve Clarke’s men this season, and if Jermain Defoe gets the jersey again, he will need to continue his own form of late and likely net again at least once if Rangers are to nab three points at a notoriously difficult venue.

Morelos’ general domestic goalscoring form is one of the few things about the striker which isn’t divisive, because only devils’ advocates could argue against the goal haul from the man top of the scoring charts, and it’s been the main source of supply against Killie by miles.

It’s almost slightly absurd in fact that Morelos has 82% of all Rangers goals against the Rugby Park side this season, showing a worrying dependence on his services to even achieve the solitary cup victory we actually have against them this campaign – and today is a chance for the rest of the squad to step up and deliver a win, in the event Morelos remains benched.

We know there will be some changes for the drawing of the SPL season’s curtain at Rugby Park, but whether that extends to Morelos regaining his starting jersey is another matter.

  1. If he does get a start, he better be well drilled, not to start his carry on. Letting them get to him. Because Killie, are a physical team and they probably will, try to get a rise out of him. In the hope that he lashes out.
