Dramatic axe appears to fall for Rangers regular

Ever since Rangers early season defensive issues appeared solved thanks to the partnership between Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic, Rangers supporters have been endlessly frustrated both by the breakup of that and Steven Gerrard’s bizarre preference for Joe Worrall.

Indeed, Worrall has been the stopper of choice this season, with supporters launching #FreeKatic tags on social networks, trying to get their heads around the Croat international’s sudden loss of favour.

However, suddenly, since the Fir Park stroll, Katic has found himself first choice again seemingly and has done himself every justice, albeit his performances haven’t been miraculous.

Which leaves the question; what’s happened with Joe Worrall?

Up till Fir Park the Forest man was essentially first-choice alongside Goldson – indeed 21 appearances in the league and 31 total this season is testament to that.

But from nowhere he finds himself axed and the fan favourite is now back in the team.

Not that we’re complaining – it’s an axe we’ve ground all season, and Katic did absolutely nothing to deserve his demotion to the bench, but it is very sudden and it’s come out of nowhere.

Could it be Gerrard preparing for life without him as the 22-year old returns to Forest? Is there something contractual now that ‘prevents’ the City Ground man now from playing any further?

Was Katic promised this period of the season back in the team?

Who knows. All we know is the past two matches have seen a welcome return for the ever-popular Katic, and most fans seem pretty happy about that.

We know we are.

  1. It's interesting that one goal conceded in the last 3 games, playing with the same back four that did so well at the beginning of the season.

  2. Imo a contract dictating the number of matches played to avoid penalty payments. We know there wasa clause for x amount of games before January or he'd be back down south. Gerrard or someone agreed to a deal that basically held us back to make the squad deeper. Poor management imo. Time to play our own 2 CBs and make it a long term solid partnership.

  3. Although we played well today, once again we lost another poor goal which firstly came from tavs side again and secondly no challenge/poor position play for Maclean's goal which isn't good enough, right back and stronger centre Half for next season is a must to stop that other Lot who are still in Denial? watp

  4. I'm glad he is back for us he should never have been ditched in the first place. Now as for big Joe a think the situation with him and the slapper he was with in the car a couple of weeks ago did him no favours hence he ain't playing and Stevie G was not best pleased with him over the situation either.

  5. My assumption is that it looks unlikely we'll get Worrall back next year so Gerrard is preparing for life without him. All good though as Katic has got great potential

  6. Hardly axed , he got an injury against Hearts and Katic has come in and played well to keep his place , something he had failed to do previously and something we all believe is the way is should be .Also , Flanagan has played the last two games in front of Halliday , has he been axed too or is it just people keeping the shirts after good performances .

  7. No story here IN. The league was lost and Gerrard decided to play and develop our own player as opposed to those belonging to other clubs. Something many on here believe should've happened all season. No problems with Worralll. Good luck and best wishes to the guy.

    • Not sure why you continue to use the site Rob, you pretty much disagree with everything we say now or dispute the article’s existence.

    • Really puzzled at this response IN. Katic was left out in favour of a loanee. Now that the season is drawing to an end, as does Worrall's loan agreement, Gerrard is now giving our own young prospect a run in the team. I thought I was just stating facts rather than disagreeing with anyone. And I don't believe I have any history of disagreeing with much of what you say. More worryingly you suggest that anyone who disagrees with your opinion maybe shouldn't use the site.

    • First of all you've absolutely nothing to back that initial assertion up. You've conjectured. So no, not facts. And secondly why does that worry you? Surely you have better things to do than worry about a Rangers website's policies?

    • IN, although Rob has nothing to back that assertion up, most fans, yourselves included, have opinions based upon belief. Once facts are known, there is nothing left to debate. Opinions however can be.
And while I often disagree with Rob, more than I tend to disagree with IN, I am happy to do so as I believe he is a genuine fan. We just see things differently.
I guess he, like many of us, enjoys this site for the stories, opinions and comments. Some of which we will agree with, others we won't. Your site is valued by us, but that doesn't mean we have to slavishly agree with every sentence or article.
Let's just agree to disagr4ee on some things as long as we all want the best for Rangers
      RTID
