“Best performance as a Ranger” – rising star of Scottish football emerges…

Regular readers will know we’ve not exactly been completely sold on January signing Glen Kamara. A bit lightweight, we’ve been critical of his notable errors in big matches, and general lack of physical presence.

Now, while we do still assert that his frame and physique perhaps aren’t quite as robust as we’d want in that position, his performance yesterday more than strongly suggested we got Glen Kamara wrong, and the kid has the tools to be a truly exceptional player in the middle for Rangers.

Not a ball wasted, not a tackle shirked, and some absolutely wonderful skill on the ball (to escape two desperate lunges reminded us of Ryan Kent v Celtic in December) have sold us on him and while we do think he could use a bit of bulking up, a slender frame sure as heck didn’t hold N’Golo Kante back.

No, Kamara put in a composed, polished and truly inspiring shift – the new system has absolutely got the best out of him and he’s loving playing in front of Steven Davis – not having to do the dirty work in midfield on his own is helping Kamara’s game and despite a slightly dodgy start against Hearts, he was impressive in that one too and it does now seem the Finnish international has found his feet in a system which compliments him superbly.

He read the game intelligently, never wasted a pass, worked hard off the ball to close down, and showed tremendous athleticism to keep momentum going.

It was by far Glen Kamara’s best performance as a Ranger, and hopefully put to bed his previous mental block against playing in the big matches.

We are always delighted at Ibrox Noise to be wrong when it is to the benefit of the club, and if Kamara can keep up this level of performance he will look a far better use of seven figures than even Jason Holt and his £29K was.

Next season Rangers will have surreal depth in central/defensive midfield. With Kamara and McCrorie pushing each other to new heights the future in that area for the club can truly match what Celtic have.

And that’s the right way forward.

  1. Yet to see him have a bad game he's an 8 every week! 1st name in the team sheet for in midfield after Arfield. He's splendid to watch.

  2. At the game yesterday, man of the match all day long again, wee mans class. Not got a clue why Goldson was given motm though

  3. This lad has all the tools to make it big and playing with the likes of Davis, Arfield and Defoe will help him to blossom.
Nice to see the skipper having another nightmare as well……

  4. I honestly think we are starting to put the pieces together for a decent team. Didn't understand, like others, why SG and MA wanted him. Now I get it. I hope they are also right about Jones and Stewart.
I have faith that we will add another 3-4 decent players to the team this summer. Add that to a good number of kids looking to step up and the future is looking good.

It will have to, they will strengthen. Fingers crossed Lennon gets the job.
