Steven Gerrard must make this big change for Rangers

As we discussed earlier, something certainly needs to change for Steven Gerrard to come away from Parkhead with anything other than a loss.

Rangers’ form of late has been some of the worst since promotion – we can barely remember going this long without a win, with none since the 27th of last month and only three in the last eight fixtures – all of whom were against bottom two sides or a side with 10 men.

In short, Rangers are not in a good place right now, and for that to change dramatically this weekend needs major surgery on a starting XI which isn’t delivering.

And we can’t help but notice a lot of this rotten form has been without Ross McCrorie in the side. Don’t get us wrong, we know December’s form was patchy at best too, when he played – but there was something about that win over Celtic with he and Jack pairing in the middle which suggested Gerrard could work with that.

Sadly, the manager didn’t agree, and signed Glen Kamara immediately, replacing McCrorie.

And while form this calendar year hasn’t been absolutely terrible, it could be way better, and we attribute some of it to the exile of our very own youth product and the subsequent loss of steel in the middle.

We get it, he’s no Barry Ferguson, but he will run his heart out and break up tonnes of opposition moves in the middle – he’s a big lad, and he’s strong, and that powderpuff midfield of the past two or three months is in part because the biggest guy we have in there is on the bench.

His return for Celtic is a no-brainer.

We don’t trust Kamara at all – sorry, despite one or two neater displays, he hasn’t impressed us in the way McCrorie had started to, and his lack of concentration in the middle at times betrays the fact he seems to sometimes think he’s still playing for Dundee. Or perhaps that’s his style, as suggested by himself and many observers that he’s so laid back. He did commit similar offences for Finland too.

Against Celtic, that will be suicide, and we know McCrorie would be in defcom 6 mode to say the least against them.

And that’s what we’ll need when we go into that place.

  1. I agree with your assessment but it would seem very odd in the extreme for McCrorie being brought back in by Gerrard after spending months sitting on the bench watching some very poor performances. I don't know if it's true but I read somewhere that McCrorie hadn't played in any game we have lost. Do you know if that's true?
