Rising star and Chelsea 6 footer - Rangers' latest transfer links...

With the summer window not exactly that far away now (just over two months) Rangers’ work to secure a stronger squad for a serious assault on the league next season is clearly underway in earnest, and Steven Gerrard has had two new names linked with a possible switch to Govan attached to him.

We begin in Motherwell, and dangerous winger Jake Hastie, 20. The talented attacker is reportedly on Gerrard’s radar, and with five goals and an assist in eight SPL appearances this season it’s obvious why.

The left winger has matured considerably in recent times, coming off an underwhelming (by comparison) spell at Championship Alloa with three goals and four assists in 23 appearances to escalate his effectiveness dramatically at Fir Park.

The Scotland U21 international is out of contract in the summer and would be a brilliant free agent for Gerrard to snap up.

And if he comes, he may well be joined by the Czech Republic’s Tomas Kalas. The 6ft defender, currently on loan at Bristol from parent club Chelsea, has 18 caps for his nation and is a ‘mere’ 25 – he’s valued reportedly between £3M-£5M and is under contract for a further two years.

The pacy defender considers himself more effective against similarly speedy opponents than against stronger muscle – albeit given his near-ever present nature in England’s rather physical second tier this season the former Vitesse man may just be being modest.

It must also be addressed that Celtic are similarly interested in him. Of course…

Either way, these would be another decent couple of grabs. We’ll see if they happen.

  1. Looks decent - Does anyone think the boy from Aberdeen would be a decent singing for the squad? Forget his name, Alfredo's best pal..

  2. Aberdeen centre half scott mckenna won't be signing for rangers my friend.
Two reasons for this being,1.Aberdeen won't sell him to rangers and 2.They want between £6million-£8million for him, which of course we couldn't and quite rightly won't pay.Aberdeen have already turned down around £5million for him.Well overpriced i think.Wouldn't give them anywhere near that for mckenna,as he's not worth anywhere near the transfer fee, they're looking for, simple as that.

    1. Agreed. We are not in a position where we can chuck money about, we still need to watch the pennies. Craig Halkett is out of contract in the summer, captain of Livingston and an ex-Rangers player released by Warburton. Much more sensible signing than Kalas or McKenna.
Hastie is a good option, although our need for cover is right wing. I thought that was where Hastie played, tbh. With Jones coming to join Middleton we are covered on the left wing even if we don't keep Kent.

  3. Cheers fellas, didn't realise the would want so much for him. I agree if we are spending that kind of money on a centre half then there is better out there. I'd take Halkett in the squad Deffo.,do u good turn when needed.

  4. Rumour around that Aberdeen captain Shinnie is joining. Anybody heard anything?

  5. Hope that's not true, about Shinnie. Hastie looks like he has a bit of hunger and an eye for a goal.

    1. Shinnie doesn't mess around and gets wired in. He is always a key player against us. And he can play at full back.
