Latest Rangers developments; reprieve for fan favourite?

Ryan Jack’s potentially-season ending injury may just have opened the door for recently out-of-favour Ross McCrorie to stake a claim back into the first team.

The Auchenhowie graduate, highly rated here at Ibrox Noise Towers, has found his chances limited to zero since the signing of Glen Kamara, but now that Ryan Jack may well be struggling for a period (undetermined yet) the holding anchor could find himself right back in the thick of it for the run in.

Currently, Rangers have a definite three fit midfielders – Steven Davis, Glen Kamara and Ross McCrorie.

Scott Arfield wasn’t himself on Sunday, having seemingly recovered from an injury, and Matt Polster apparently remains out of contention as well, with a well-reported groin problem. Perhaps these two will be available for Friday but we highly doubt it.

Nevertheless, with Jack currently unavailable (it seems), McCrorie suddenly gets hurtled into the first-team scene with critical priority, meaning the midfield for the trip to face Paul Heckingbottom’s side is likely, fitness-based to be Kamara, McCrorie and Davis.

Either way, whoever else is selected ahead of Kamara and McCrorie, it does seem a very big opportunity for our youth product to show just why he should be in every week.

It still doesn’t sit well with us here that Kamara just came in and stole his place, without having earned it, and being, in our honest opinion, a lesser option.

McCrorie may have a chance to finally show why he should never have been dumped in the first place.

  1. Have to disagree with your assessment that Kamara is the lesser option. IMO he keeps the ball moving better than McCrorie. And is very neat in tight spaces, it'll be good to see how these two play together.

Not convinced by Davis yet, part of me would rather see Haliday get a go in place of Arfield, at least we know he'll be a nuisance, close down DMs and CBs quicker than Davis and actually shoot if he gets a chance.

  2. I’m but this is football and sentiment shouldn’t come into it, McCrorie does a job no doubt in a defensive midfielder role that is at his current development stage limited, Kamara however offers so much more, he carries the ball, can see a pass and generally covers the midfield with ease, he makes things happen, Mcrorie stops things happening ie breaks up the opposition, two completely different players

  3. Both your points are kind of moot and picking up on something very throwaway – either way both of these players would be playing together depending on fitness.

    • Curious to know what the throwaway part is. We both believe Kamara is better with the ball. I'd say that's quite significant depending on the opposition

    • Odd that. Didn’t say he wasn’t. Barely said a word about him. Other than we prefer McCrorie. That you’ve both ignored the rest of the piece is equally as curious.

  4. I'm happy to have both in our midfield especially against lesser opposition like Hibs . MC Crorie will always give plenty for that Blue Jersey Kamara has more subtle touch's and patience. We need our whole squad to keep up the demands.
