How did Morelos do? First start for Colombia analysed

Alfredo Morelos won his first start today as a Colombian international. How much advantage did he take of the opportunity?

Being removed at half time would suggest he perhaps didn’t exploit his chance as much as he’d like, and that would be partly true.

While he worked hard deeper as always, and indeed retreated back to midfield occasionally to help his colleagues out, he operated in his usual 9 position and was always available for team mates.

He got two main chances, one a header which he could and should have done far better with as it went well wide of the post, and another fine volleyed effort which he did well to get purchase on but again it went wide up of the upright.

He will be happy to have had his first big appearance in a yellow shirt, but familiar profligacy in front of goal on the big occasion as Rangers fans have witnessed many many times blighted him again, and while this was only a friendly, and half time changes were likely pre-arranged, the fact captain James Rodriguez came on in his place did rather suggest he hadn’t really impressed Queiroz.

Morelos really needs to learn how to be more clinical on the big stage, because while he didn’t blow his big chance here, he didn’t stand out enough either.

  1. He missed an absolute sitter and was subbed at half time, so he never done to well.
Hopefully he doesn't repeat that performance on Sunday

  2. Not a chance we will get more then 6 million for him. Be lucky to get that. Can't score in big games hope he proves me wrong on Sunday

  3. Probably done enough over the 2 games to keep him in the squad so he will get more caps. Even now if we sell him in the summer we will sell him as a current Colombian internationalist.

  4. It makes me laugh when fans downplay the potential fee for Morelos. If it was a Championship club then sure don't expect any more than £6m but if it's a big club from Germany, France, England or Turkey then why would they want to sign any striker that was only worth £6m. And before you go down the untried/untested/hasn't scored in the big games road then don't forget Bournemouth took a £19m punt on Solanke.

  5. I'm with you guys on your comments But why has ibrox noise missed out the absolute sitter in this article. A lot of people tend to get carried away with Alfie for me he is just one of those run of mill average strikers. Moult and Boyce scored just as many goals as he did more in fact at the time he joined us. They both went down south for about half a million quid each. So what makes us think we can get 20 million. Only my opinion.
