Mystery of the missing three Rangers….

We’re still digesting through the carcass of yet another horrendous Rangers performance, and we’ll have more reaction for you tomorrow (aren’t you lucky good readers) but we do have to wonder what happened with Ryan Jack and Gareth McAuley, and for that matter, Scott Arfield today.

The latter was not at training prior to this one amidst information of an injury, hence his absence today, but we’re less clear on why Jack wasn’t even in the match day squad either and Northern Irish international McAuley continues to be absent from said 18 for two matches in a row despite apparently being fit.

Jack especially was a big absence – we’re presuming a niggle picked up in training, but not one Steven Gerrard mentioned in his presser, and in fairness Ross McCrorie played well enough in his absence, but all the chopping and changing, whatever the reason, is simply not helping this club.

In Arfield’s case his form can be patchy, and he got dog’s abuse from some quarters after the Killie result for a slightly meeker performance than usual, but he has been one of the best players in the shirt this season so his absence was certainly felt. And Jack and McAuley have been mostly impressive this season when used and we cannot understand where they were today at all.

Goldson especially is suffering in defence without an older alpha to guide him (he and McAuley remains statistically our best defence), and while it’s true that we’ve had no concessions the past two matches with this backline, we’ve also not exactly looked as robust as that makes it sound.

If anyone knows where the three of them were better than our information, hit us in the comments.

  1. Squad rotation I reckon with Wednesday coming up. We should have been able to beat St Johnstone. Apart from McGregor everyone, except long term injured, should be available. Killie have big game tomorrow so should be ripe for plucking on Wednesday. If we don’t then SGs strategy is wrong.

  2. Arses need booted. Being too soft with players and they, are definitely,'taking the…' Sick of it. Let down, for another season. But we've lost this season, due to ourselves. And what about McAllister. Is it not his job, to spot things going wrong and bad decisions?? Heads need to roll, with this squad. Injuries galore, lacklustre play. Just not good enough, by far! Kamara and Kent, did their bit, but the rest need to take a good long hard look in the mirror. Morelos out and they all fall to bits. And how many times is Lafferty going to hit the post instead of the back of the net?? It's a JOKE! not a very funny one, either!!

  3. Just another average and boring 90 mins watching Rangers…… Gerrard is getting a free ride at Ibrox…. Kamara was Pish….. Candeias was pish as usual…. Baresic was Pish….. Davis was Pish…. Tavernier was Pish…. Defoe is too small to lead the line on his own, pkayed better when Lafferty came on….. DREADING WEDNESDAY V KILLIE…

  4. No leader on the park, I've said it tine & time again! Tav like Wallace before him is not a captain! Gerrard says McCrorie is a future club captain! Then just make him captain! Didn't do Barry Ferguson any harm being captain at a young age! Our 2 big name January signings aren't adding anything to the team & struggling thus far, Davis looks like he hasn't kicked a ball since he left us years ago, he looks lost & devoid of confidence! Defoe is a poacher & will nick the odd goal but he is not a leader up front like Freddo! Lafferty needs to start when Freddo is out, he is a much bigger physical presence! St Johnstone like Killie before them read us like a book! Suffocate the supply from our wingers & full backs & we will struggle to break them down as we have no real penitration through the middle or someone in the team who can unlock defences! Need to stop all this talk of going for 55 & just worry about keeping a gap between us & the likes of Killie & the sheep Shaggers
