Rangers today released the latest training video, this time from the team’s camp in Tenerife, and one of the stand out concerns was Borna Barisic’s continuing place alongside Jamie Murphy in the ‘injured’ category.
The Croatian’s prognosis remains a little unclear after he pulled his hamstring in Perth, and Steven Gerrard then suggested Rangers would lose the ex-Osijek man for a couple of weeks.
That has, however, changed dramatically and Gerrard has confirmed the injury is serious.
The Croat did fly to Tenerife but took no part in training, and given Gerrard’s sombre update we wonder if we’re looking at a manner of months rather than weeks.
In any case Andy Halliday’s stellar display v Celtic may have helped to ease that issue, and Lee Wallace’s prominence at training also gives Gerrard extra options in that position assuming the former captain stays.
But it’s undeniably disappointing that a £2M Croatian international’s time at Ibrox has been this unsettled due to repeated injuries.
And we don’t expect him back any time before February.
